Gypsy's numbers are climbing back up. They've been down around the 150s. Today they've been progressively climbing and the last one is almost 300 :-( I don't know if I just didn't give her enough insulin (those frigging hash marks are SOOO tiny) or what. I feel her fur after after every shot, so I don't think I've been giving furshots. Is this normal and I just need to calm down, or...?

Also, the feedings weren't coinciding with insulin shots. Was feeding at 6 a.m. and shooting at 9 a.m. I don't know if that's okay or not okay. My reasoning was by 9 a.m. I'd be up and about, whereas I'm not always up at 6 a.m., but it's not going to kill them to wait on food if I oversleep. I thought about switching their feeding time to 9 a.m., but they are seriously insistent in the mornings. Although 9 / 9 would be more convenient because everything's going on at 6 / 6--in the morning it's trying to get breakfast made / coffee made, etc. At night it's trying to get dinner on the table, you know?

Anyone have any suggestions / advice? I was thinking tomorrow will be her first week home from the vet and if it's still climbing, I may go up to 1.5. I would say 1.25, but I can tell you right now that I'm doing good to see the hash marks for whole units. .25 is probably not going to happen with regularity :-p (those lines are TINY).

Thanks!

Looking at your SS I see you've jumped around with the insulin dose quite a bit from 1 to 2, to 0 and up again and this is not going to help stabilize Gypsy. You need to hold the dose according tot he SLGS method and then adjust in .25 doses. The schedule of 9/9 will work if that's what you choose, but if you feed at 9 make sure you test and shoot and then feed with no food 2 hrs before shot time. I was using that time schedule for Davidson and will go back to it once summer is over. I'm up early so feeding is not an issue, and then I remove the food to insure he has good test numbers that are not food influenced. Just know that it means waking up in the middle of the night to get the +4 and onward testing done. This might be problematic if you work, as you need to get tests around nadir time.

Buy a magnifying glass at your local dollar store so you can see the 1/2 marks on the needles, and then it's easy to see between them. You need to stay consistent with the dosing and be as accurate as possible.......I'd say hold this dose so the depot has a chance to fill and then your numbers will even off.

Others will comment I'm sure, but that's a start

@Shawna & Davidson -- thanks. I realize that now. My vet actually gave me a sliding scale when we first brought her home. Starting on the 4th, I implemented the Start Low, Go Slow protocol and have been giving her 1 unit per shot since then.

Thanks for the magnifying glass tip--I didn't even think of that. Hubby has one he uses for coins, and bonus is it's freestanding, so I'll use that.

Testing: I've been testing every three hours throughout the day, then right before I go to bed (around 11ish / midnightish) and again when I get up around 6.

Thank you for the input :-)
