I guess we are off to the vet tomorrow. Her BG was 260. Afraid to give insulin.

She seems so miserable. Wondering if it is her time.

I asked last time and she said if that was it she would be having diarrhea and vomiting blood. I just want her to have a good quality of life. She squatted to pee earlier but didn't. Thought it was because I barged in for a ketone test (she wi run off in the middle of it if she sees me) but not sure.

I know I can't afford weekly vet visits or expensive treatments. Mostly though I just don't want her miserable.

You have worked hard for the diabetes and done well. It is so discouraging when something else goes wrong. Maybe a UTI? I think I have given you this pancreatitis info before:

We could suggest Syringe feeding/baby food - lots of options, but I understand. You don't want her in pain and miserable.

My usual comment : whatever you decide is the right decision because you make it out of love.

Your vet is mistaken. Some cats with pancreatitis are just 'off'. Maybe meatloafing because of discomfort/pain and not eating because of nausea.

Pancreatitis Primer

Rachel,

Your vet is wrong about the pancreatitis. My cat had it twice. The second time she had it the only symptom she had is that she would not eat. So you might consider finding another vet.
I hope Gypsy gets to feeling better soon.

I'll ask about pancreatitis today. I read the primer...if diagnosed does that mean she will need to be syringe fed for the rest of her life?

Rachel,

No that does not mean she will have to be syringe fed. If they can get the nausea under control, most often they will start eating again. There are varying degrees of pancreatitis, mild to severe. It also is painful and if in case she would have it I would ask for pain meds, buprenex is the best.
They can do a test to see of she has it, I am hoping that she does not have it. I would print that Primer on Pancreatitis out and keep it handy, its by far the best explanation I have seen yet, you can take it to the vet as well. Although after what the vet told about vomiting blood and all that I am not so sure they know to much about treating it.
As I said my cat had it twice and never threw up blood or had diarrhea.

Bailey has tested positive for ongoing chronic pancreatitis, and he has never has the classic signs of vomiting/loose stools,he was just not a happy cat and would crouch in the meatloaf position for hours.
