Gus' Numbers going up

So Gus has been testing between 79 and 104 consistently since last Sunday. This am
He's 142!!! There goes out perfect score. Whilevinknow these are still acceptable numbers is it possible this has been influenced by his food? I may have given him one of his proplan gravies last night. Advice please!
 
I should also mention we had a pretty big thunderstorm about 20 minutes or so before I tested him? Nervous spike?

Thunderstorm stress out my cats so I wouldn't be surprised if it impacted Gus blood sugar..
 
Thanks Wendy! He's been doing so great and he's been like his old self again. I had some low carb food this am and he's been cleaning himself!!!!! He hasn't done that in weeks!!!! Hopefully it was just the thunder. :)
 
It's just one number, Nancy. Let's see if he settles back down. I'd write HIGH CARB on those ProPlan so you won't feed them by mistake. And yes, as Wendy said, could be stress.
 
according to Dr. Lisa's food chart - wellness sliced chicken is 13% carbs!

maybe not something you want to feed and also label high carb.

I read the chart and think I made some good choices for Gus at the store. Everything 10% or under. His problem is he likes chunks not the pâté. But he's gonna have to get with the new program. Thanks everyone!! Ill keep you posted! No insulin since last Sunday!!
 
No I wouldn't let it sit out oh my god I just had four days with diarrhea I don't need that again!!!
 
So I just tested Gus....he's back down to 129 so I can rest. Gave him low carb evo food which was on the food list at an 8 or 9. He seemed to enjoy it. It had chunks so he was a happy man. I think the thunderstorm and the oopsie super carb food bumped him up. Thanks again!!
 
I give him food in am and then food in pm. He never really eats it all at once. He eats a good portion and then he picks. You can bet I'm keeping an eye on him. He's been grooming himself though so that's great!! I've been finding little puffs of fur everywhere! It's been a while since he's done that.
 
That grooming is appositive sign that he is feeling better. :-D

We think of a cat as being 'more than the numbers'. The 5 P's are peeing, pooping, preening, purring and playing. These in addition to a cat's appetite, are some of the clinical signs to tell us how they are doing.

So, how many of the 5 P's does Gus have today? How is his appetite? We call this the WCR or Whole Cat Report.
 
He's got the 5 Ps covered today!! Appetite is good and he even slept in my bed with me which he also hasn't done in a while. I think I got my baby back!! Numbers back down to 80 but we have another thunderstorm today. Hopefully he's sleeping through it.

Thanks BJM, I already check his pee and water closely. I smell his breath all the time but I haven't tested for ketones because he's been consistently under 120 except got the storm yesterday. Today he was back to 80 and he was acting quite spritely. I know when my guys not feeling well so him cleaning and sleeping in the bed are signs he's on the mend. Now we just need to get maybe a pound back on to him things will be perfect!
 
Have you tried a low carb kitten food? Those tend to be higher protein and calorie to meet growth needs. Ex Evo Cat & Kitten canned.
 
I bought about 20 cans of assorted 10% and under foods yesterday. There are a couple of evo kitten foods in the stack for him. I can feel him filling out already since he got diagnosed.
 
At his peak he was 16 1/2 lbs. after the surgery in november he was 14. I'd be fine with that he's a big maine coon. I used to free feed him dry food (maybe a cup left out all day) and 1 ff can in the am and one at night. All the cans say feed 1 can per 2-2 1/2 lbs of body weight daily. So I'm guessing 4 cans a day cuz he's 12.1 lbs?!? He ate a can 1/2 tonight.
