Morning all. I have been giving Frankie his morning heart tablet and his evening Zobaline in Greenies pill pockets, alternating between the salmon and chicken flavours. Are these good for diabetic cats or not?

I use those also Sue (when my cats will eat them! :banghead:).

The feline ones do contain grains and sugar, but I just try to use the smallest amount possible to wrap the pill. I've read on here that the dog 'duck & pea' ones are low carb, but I've never tried those. There's a link to them on Amazon UK here (at least I think these are the ones....?):

The Zobaline shouldn't have any taste at all (I tried one before giving Bertie's left over pills to my DH... ). Have you tried just crushing them into Frankie's food...?

One of my kitties on daily meds got really fed up with the pill pockets, and in the end I crushed his pill and mixed it with a couple of drops of krill oil, and then mixed that into a little food. And he was fine with that... (It might not work if the pill tastes really horrid though....or if the cat hates fishy tastes...)

And regarding the heart tablet, the most important thing is that Frankie takes it.
What heart pills is he on?
.

Frankie is a bit hit and miss with the pockets lately too. He used to love them, but now it depends what mood he's in!!

I could crush his Zobaline but I want to make sure he eats it all but he always leaves some in the bowl and it's left to the others to gobble down. They always seem to love food that's not meant for them or is that just mine? I know it wouldn't harm them but I want Frankie to get the full dose to give him the best possible chance of getting more mobile. I can pill him tough. He is a very placid cat and you can do anything to him as long as he got a belly rub afterwards!! Trouble is, he gags when something he doesn't want goes in his mouth and I worry he's choking. He's not, but it's scary.

He's on half a 25mg Atenolol tablet once a day for his heart. He used to be on the syrup which I would syringe into his mouth quite happily, but that changed once he became diabetic.

A bit of processed cheese may be used to wrap a pill, too, if the cat is not dairy sensitive.

I use the Dog Duck & Pea Pill Pockets with Bandit, and he likes them just fine. If he is occasionaly picky I'll roll it in something he likes--the dust from his freeze dried salmon treats, some cooked chicken, or tuna. I just use half of one because they're a bit larger than the cat ones.
