Just got back from the Animal Hospital. Everything usually goes awry after regular business hours, right? I still don't get why you have to be charged extra for coming in with an ill animal after your vets regular hours. They don't do that to people do they? in the ER, I mean?
Anyway, I tested Murphy's glucose at 6pm and it was high again at 680 and was set to feed hmi at 7 and give insulin. The vet from the Cat Clinic called me before insulin time as I had dropped off a copy of my excel spreadsheet of glucose and insulin, etc for Murphy. She and the vets at the ER both said to stick with the dm food, but try to only feed twice a day, so for now I will mix in dry with canned and leave out for a half hour or more and that's it. Murphy's glucose is so high they don't really fear a low at this point on the pzi. The doc at the Cat Clinic also stated to go up from 2 units to 3 of the pzi tonight, which I did.
About 9pm, Murphy started to act strange, a bit hyper and was really attacking the younger cat, so I decided to check his glucose as he did not eat a lot while he was on the floor. He is such a patient soul, but after 5 tries I was ready to give up. When I picked him up to put him in the chair, I noticed green slimy poop on his tail and underneath. I tried to search the topics on this site but was unsuccessful so I googled it, and came up with pancreatitis, etc. Not knowing what else to do as there is no one available after hours at the Cat Clinic, I called and eventually brought Murphy to the ER. They said it could be colitis and gave us a Probiotic and told me to stick with one food...the dm and no more fancy feast pates. that could have been the culprit or perhaps there really were just too many diet changes within a month....c/d to w/d to dm and reg fancy feast to low carb. His glucose was down to 372, which is high, but good. His temp was 102 which they said was ok and they gave him SQF (fluids). He is resting now and seems quite pooped. My poor little guy! I thought I was doing all the right things, but could kick myself for the rapid diet changes.
I just wasn't thinking. Hoo Boy!! Well right now, Sophie Mae is licking Murphy's head to make him feel better. I bet she would have known better what to do. :-)

I am glad that Murphy now seems better.
Regarding color:
The color of stool may provide clues. In the poop chapter, we saw that the normal brown color of stool is due to gut bacterial action on bilirubin. Bilirubin comes from spent red blood cells and is delivered to the gut in bile. Bilirubin has a yellow hue and if the stool passes too quickly, as in diarrhea, before the gut bacteria have their chance, the stool may appear more yellow. If bilirubin is low or absent and the stool has a greenish cast from its bile content, this could indicate a problem with bilirubin excretion and should be reported to the vet. An excessive amount of bilirubin could cause the stool to appear black. Significant changes in stool color which can't be accounted for otherwise indicate need for a vet visit.

You said " I still don't get why you have to be charged extra for coming in with an ill animal after your vets regular hours. They don't do that to people do they? in the ER, I mean?"
ER visits for humans are a lot more than a standard doctor's office visit.

Thanks for the info!
Murphy didn't like the taste of the probiotic on his food or really touch the dm dry/can mix, so I broke down and gave him just a little ff canned pate, even after what we just went thru. I don't want him to starve. I am hoping he will be super hungry for dinner and eat the dm.

Also, what I was trying to say about the human er is that no matter what time of day, they charge you the same for services!

One of the vets practices that i use charges an emergency fee if a regular appointment slot is not open and your animal needs urgent care.
