I took Jess to the vet today for his second check up after all the tests and surgery last Thursday. I hoped he might be able to have his drain out today. Since his surgery to fit the drain he was been like a different cat! It is like having the old Jess back. He has been eating well and climbs the windows frames to try to get out ... Even though the window is shut. He has been very affectionate and contented although he hasn't liked wearing a collar to protect his wound.
This morning the vet confirmed that he has continued to make excellent progress and told me that he could remove the drain. The collar was removed, much to Jess' relief and then the sutures were cut. The vet pulled out the drain and sniffed it. Then he put it under my nose. I told him I couldn't smell anything. The vet told me that was because the infection was gone. he said that if the site of the abscess was still infected, the drain would have smelled awful. I asked the vet when he needed to say Jess again and the reply was 'When his booster vaccinations are due'.
Last Thursday, Jess was given a shot of Convenia, which was good for two weeks. We now have to keep fingers and prayers crossed that this horrible infection does not return and that the surgery and Convenia have done the trick.
We are all feeling much more positive about Jess' capacity to come through this crisis. Thank you all for your healing thoughts and prayers.
Dare I say it? I think that everything is going to be OK.
