Good afternoon all -

A beautiful sunny spring day in NC - THIS is why I LOVE living here!

Grayson's numbers so far:
AMPS 456
+3 333
100 mL SubQs
+5 313
TRACE ketones

Grayson was kind of jacked up at AMPS time, but is coming down nicely - and VERY GOOD news on the ketones. I'm currently flushing him w/ fluids once a day.

Something occured to me last night that I probably need to factor into my numbers - or at least do a better job reporting/recording. G's appetite is still VERY healthy (he's probably thinking, "The more I eat, the less fluids she has to give me!"). Therefore he's eating not just at preshots, but also as much as another can or more per cycle. Since those little cans of FF tend to inflate his numbers - usually about 40 points - I'll make a better effort to scribe the whens and the quantities of food consumed. If I hold out on him, he's scavenging for anything he can find - like canned green beans, soup... :-D

Poor little guy so hungry he goes searching the trash cans for food. Oh so sad...
Last night when I was holding food from Baxter for 30 minutes my DH told me to stop starving him. Oh it made me so sad to hear that. It also didnt help because Baxter went to the table & sat right by DH chair & stared at DH like...help me...I need food. Baxter never does that. So I dropped what I was doing & gave him food.

Oh poor little kitties.

I hope Grayson numbers get better. ;-)

OMG, Baxter's no dummy! "What did your Mom say?" "I dunno, I didn't ask Mom..." "Well, go ask your Mom!"..... "Mom, Dad said you should feed me!"

Isn't it amazing how well they know us and how good they are at playing us - even pitting mama bean against papa bean!

Recap of Grayson's day:

AMPS 456 Shot 3.4
+3 333
100 mL SubQs
+5 313
TRACE ketones
PMPS 119 - Huh????? Way outa his ballpark. This was a double dip of blood on the strip. Try again:
PMPS 412 - I liked the other better, but 3rd times the charm - this time w/ Libby's meter:
PMPS 443 - that's what I thought. I'll make the 412 the official number. Shot 3.4
+1 297
+3.25 332 (successfully tested by friend/pet sitter - 1st try)
+4.6 323

I'm sure he's thinking... "I could really be good w/ a late-night snack!" But we're gonna wait for Hershey's numbers to come up and feed them both. Wouldn't want one to miss out on a meal or snack!

Thats exactly how it played out. Play by play. He is no dummy for sure.

Don't let Grayson miss his meal. He will be digging in the trash like a alley cat.
I have been sending thoughts to Grayson for better numbers. Come on little guy...actually isnt he big?

Grayson never really looked like he'd missed too many meals! He was a REALLY BIG boy last year (and some of the previous years!). 21.6 pounds in June at his last "tune-up". +/-18 when he was diagnosed on January 3rd (@ vet) / 4th (results/food change). 12.2 on Jan 13 started insulin. 13.4 on Mar 1. 13.2 on Mar 9. I could pull the scale out now, but he's sleeping - and I wouldn't want to disturb him! Not like he sleeps all day!

I'm wondering if I need either a new battery for the meter, or if I should get another as a back-up. It's been nice to check against a second meter. Did that w/ Kim's initially, and now Libby's. Both of theirs seem to require a little less blood than mine.

And, although he's "been to the alley" (where he was initially tested), and even re-checked out the breadbox, he hasn't had much luck finding anything! ...and he still hasn't completely figured out how to operate the Tupperware cannisters or open the microwave door, where yummy things are stashed!).

Sorry grayson is not doing well. You are doing a Great job taking care of Hershey. Hoping Grayson keeps those ketones down and number get better soon!

Thanks - the way I see it, other than the numbers, Grayson is doing really well. He's social, he plays some, he's even jumping again (to the counters  ). The fluids at this point are a proactive means to keep the ketones away, as is the dose. Once I feel confident that we've moved "away from the edge of the ketone cliff", we'll address everything else accordingly. I'm confident that we'll get there, like Sue says, it's a marathon, not a sprint!... or as I remind everyone else, Rome wasn't built in a day!

Today I saw about a 100 point drop (again, that +1 looks wonky to me), and that's not taking into account all the extra food I'm giving him mid cycle. Given that, I'm sure the numbers would show even better if I could convince him to eat only twice a day. Or, I'll start doing mini meals every 2 hours and see how he does. For now, I'm feeding him so he doesn't start chewing on the table legs!
