Happy Leap Day!

Unfortunately, Grayson's not leaping... although he did break 300, if only by ONE point... then back to the 300s. We're rechecking at the vet this afternoon. See if there's something else that we may have missed. He's still showing TRACE or SMALL ketones, so I'm still chasing him around the house w/ a ketone strip! (or so it seems!).

Wednesday 2/29
AMPS 331 Shot 1.6 Ate ONLY 1/2 can FF... this is a guy who normally would/could eat 2 cans at one sitting
+1.5 357
+5 299
+6 314, 336, 340 (blood sucked up really fast so I tried it a couple more times)
+7 328 Ate 1/2 can FF while getting 100 mL SubQs.

At least he's staying in the lower half of the 300s... but I'm aware that that's still not a good place to be.

I know it's so frustrating! Keep looking forward!
Those lower numbers are bound to happen soon.

When will I learn not to make silly statements like that???!!!

Maybe it was riding in the soft-sided carrier (Moochie Pooch was in the plastic one), or perhaps it was the vet visit, or even that he's gone from marathon 24 hr cycles to 8-10- or 12- hour cycles... OR going from .4 to 2 units in a week (that freaks ME out!) ... but his PMPS was 443. YIKES!!! Three steps forward, two steps back!

Since there was no sign of infection, and with his decrease in appetite, doc said to stop the antibiotic (Clavamox), as it may be the reason. Picked up another bag of SubQs earlier, so we're set for some more tonight. Got smaller needles, however, as he wasn't pleased last night...and since his focus wasn't on the food, he was being wiggly. Now the fluids fill really fast w/ the larger needle, but it's more about his comfort than mom's time... and honestly, I don't think it made more than a minute or two difference! We've upped the insulin from 1.6 to 2.0u. I guess I just need to sit down and see where it takes him. I am completely jealous of everyone else's blues, greens and yellows!!!

I've told others to be patient... guess I should've said "Do as I say, not as I do!", as it's probably pretty clear how disillusioned I am. I know, Sue - it's a marathon - but we are not pacing ourselves well - maybe he is, but I'm not! We're not getting the rest and the fuel we need to go the distance, and it's taking it's toll. I'm so distracted, having a hard time accomplishing things - both at home and at work, I'm procrastinating - and easily distracted. Work deadlines, paperwork, taxes, laundry, cleaning... Waaaaahhhhh! Pitty party for poor me! ...at least until midnight tonight. And not another one til the next leap day in 2016 - sound fair? Arghhhh!!! Just SO want to be able to get/keep him healthy (translation - regulated)! And YESTERDAY!!! And yes, I AM trying to breathe!...just feels more like hyperventilating sometimes.

You are ENTITLED to a pity party. I suggest you have one! Just be sure to include some whine  and do lots of breathing.

You have done all the right things, Lu, and worked hard for him. I think he has so many things going on that it is harder than just diabetes. With any other mom, he would never have come so far. I really hope he turns the corner soon and starts making things easier for you.

((((((cyber hugs)))))))))))

I'm sure the vet visit played a part in that 443. They can drive you nuts but it will get easier. Take a look at Thumper's SS, we've been at this almost a year, switched insulin and she still bounces all over the place. Take a look at the last week. She was getting some really good numbers now I assume she's bouncing again.

Go look at Kitty's BID spreadsheet if you want to see UGLY! It takes time-- but, you will get there.

Now, where is the Party? I will be right over!

I'm STILL overwhelmed by the dose - although doc said many of her other patients are on 6 unit BID. I didn't ask, but I'm guessing they are NOT on lo-carb food.

Party? I'm such a party animal... I'm going home shortly to check his +2. Will set the alarm and revisit +4, +5 in case it actually drops his numbers - I can only hope!

Maybe then I'll get some of that rest I've been whining about! Fortunately, my friends keep me fueled up a fair amt of the time! :-D

Yes, your vet does have patient's on 6 units bid....their practice use to have a cat on 8 units bid....remember the cat Risky I told you about. ;-)

Don't fret the 2 units, it really appears that Grayson needs more insulin. And, insulin is key in fighting ketones, so hopefully the additional insulin will help fight the ketones and lower the BGs. You are testing and on top of the dose and know how to handle anything it throws at you. Relax!

Hey Lu,

So sorry you are in the dumps. I was for several days too and so was copper. You are allowed to be upset. I know the feeling. But there will be better days ahead.

Hang in there!

We know the feeling too
This too shall pass. You will get there one way or another.
And until you do, drinking09 cheers momma :-D
We're with you all the way!

It's official - PITY PARTY ENDED! Leap Day is officially over!

It's amazing what a little bit of rest can do for a body! I feel much better! Thank you to all who tried to pull me up from the depths of my funk! I know - it's just a day. It's just a number. ...it's just that that number has been hanging on for pretty much two weeks. Well, the tide has turned!

PMPS, 443
shot 2.0 (the most EVER!)
ate ~7/8 can of FF - woo hoo! (maybe it was the AB causing the reduced appetite)
+2 343 WOO HOO! 100 points down!
mama bean took a nap...feeling MUCH better now!
+6 209!!! Not just breaking 300, but the OTHER END of the 200s! This is HUGE!!!
100 mL SubQs - finished up some of the food from earlier
...and his eyes don't look as glassy!

Maybe, just maybe, we're headed to the right dose! What a difference a week or two makes!

Thanks again for all the support. This is not something I'd want to be going through alone. THANK YOU!!!

Lu
