Hi Everyone

Grady was at 22 tonight PMBG. I know this is very low. He is not acting like anything is amiss but my gut says to feed him some canned food with gravy, which I know is higher carb. Maybe he just needs a little more carbs than what he has been getting? Are there any Fancy Feast types that would be good to try? We have been doing the classic pate in beef and poultry flavors. Is there something that is still lower carbs but might give him a little boost? He is eating Purina One...some sort with gravy because that is what I had on hand. I will test again in a few hours.

And I will be calling vet on Monday to get bloodwork done.

Have you got another back up meter?

I think the ff are around 4% you might want to check out food lists and get something a little higher in carb but still under 10%.

When did he last eat?

Another thought test him again, sometimes you can get a faulty reading, if not enough blood is drawn up into the strip.

54! I probably was a little aggressive with the test but got a nice bead of blood and re-tested. I would imagine it is too soon after eating (30 min) to get the increase?

.30min can be long enough for some cats, George took more like 45 min, it may be a food bump, I would check him again in 1hr see where he's at.

If you get a weird reading like that, first thing would be to recheck by testing again.

Glad he's up anyways, don't like seeing 22, gives me palpitations.

Hi Jenny.

That is kind of a scary number. For future reference, I recommend strongly that you always get an immediate retest, any time you get a number that surprises you. Of course, Grady hasn't been on insulin for over a week, so I don't think there's any risk of Hypo, but you do want him higher. I'm glad to see he came up so easily. It might have been a bad strip or something.

With my cats 20-30 minutes was enough to see an effect from the food, but as Gill said, ECID.
