Happy "OTJ Trial Day 6" which is what you're title should include so we can all cheer along with you. This place craves happiness. Good job bringing those gifts Grady.

Quick question about food: Grady has seemed very hungry without the insulin. Is this normal? He woke us up at 3:30 am...I gave him a small can of FF and then he was hungry again at 5:30 so he got another can. We gave him 1/2 a can at 1 and a full can at 6. I am planning to give him another 1/2 a can before we go to bed to see if that holds him for the night. It seems like a lot today but my goal is 3 small cans a day, spread out, which should be appropriate for his weight. I am so worried about either over feeding him (he is a big boy) or not giving him enough and that stressing out his body in some way. Any advice about this is greatly appreciated. Without any dry food down, I just worry that something bad will happen if he is too hungry.

Is he getting more exercise now he's feeling better?

How much food is tricky, the best measure if he is getting enough or too much is to monitor his weight and adjust intake accordingly.
How many calories in the food you are feeding?

He is running quite low for a kitty with no insulin, we have had kitties like this in the past, and it's normal for them. I wonder if he is getting more exercise than he used to now that he is feeling better??

My experience with George, who is a complete foodie, is that once he has got regulated and off insulin he is no longer as hungry as he used to be, and has a more normal appetite, that said George went into remission, much more slowly than Grady, and had time to get used to his BG being in a normal range, I wonder if for Grady he still perceives these lower ranges as 'abnormal' and that's why he is asking for food, because his body thinks he is going too low.??? (just pondering on this)

That's an interesting thought. Lots of cats will search out food when they get to low numbers, it would make sense if that was what was going on here.
