Hi: It has been many months since I have posted anything as my cats are doing so well, or should I say were doing so well :? The one cat that I am having the most trouble with is "Gracie". She is tested regularly and her BG is always around 4.6 to 5.1 (this is a Canadian measurement) and hasn't had any insulin since June 2011 so I am going to make the assumption that throwing away the dry food and only feeding her wet food has made the difference. The concern that I am having now is that she is ravenously hungry and I notice an odour on her - almost like ketoacidosis - but how can this be if her BG appears to be under control. I have solved the problem of Gracie attacking my fake plants - i now grow my own cat grass, but she really attacks this like she hasn't eaten in days. I have done my reading on the internet and one website said something about folic acid deficient? has anyone ever heard of this and what can be done about it. CT and Morris seem to be doing well, although Morris has kidney problems now and I have to feed him different food. I really love my cats and have gone the extra mile each and every time for them but I am stressed to the nines trying to keep all three of them healthy and happy. If anybody has any answers, or words of encouragement....I could really use the help

It is unlikely that Gracie has ketones, but low blood glucose numbers don't always guarantee an absence of ketones. You can check for ketones if you pick up some KetoStix from the pharmacy and test her urine.

There are medical conditions other than diabetes that present with a ravenous appetite. One that jumps to mind is hyper-thyroidism. Maybe it's time for a vet visit and bloodwork. The blood tests for Hyper-T are not part of the "normal" blood panel. You need to specifically ask for them.

I don't know anything specifically about folic acid (B12) deficiency.
