Wow - what a GOOD boy I have ... been following him into the LB for weeks - bending down trying to get him used to it - he's been OK but than today I tried to put the stick under him and he was NOT happy - but JUST NOW - on my way to bed I was behind him as he walked to the LB and so I gave it another shot with the stick -didn't grab the long handled spoon again - with all that hair it was hard to tell where the stream was coming from but he let me wave the stick around and I caught the stream and checked it out and - WE'RE SAFE right now - despite his high numbers and all the water he's drinking etc. No ketones. So now he'll hopefully let me test him regularly and I am much relieved at that.

VERY GOOD!!! And Good Boy!!!

Maybe the spoon was more intimidating than you realized! But not your hand. Good for you! Keep those negative tests comin!

I've never even gotten my act together enough to grab the spoon - I keep just grabbing the strips which I put in a open top jar a few at a time so I could easily grab them but they wouldn't be exposed to the air for too long (as I'm thinking that might effect them?). He's so funny - he just stares at me with his HUGE eyes and looks totally annoyed but after the one episode where he jumped out of the box and into the other one he's been fine twice now. Our vet always says he's the best patient - lets them do anything to him without fussing - and as they also say "if he didn't want to let us do this ... we wouldn't be able to" cause he's so big!

You are correct - they do need to stay sealed in the jar - with the little packet that keeps them dry. They can pick up moisture from the air in your house, so I wouldn't leave them exposed for more than a couple of minutes. They have a very short shelf life - both before and after they've been pee'd upon.

ahhh, good to know - mine were in a jar - deep in the jar so not fully exposed but they were out for a couple of hours. Hope the tests were still accurate.
