Got faked out. Glucose level dropping fast!! Advice Please.

Looks like another morning of monitoring.

I gave kitty .5 units last night. 2 hours later than normal because his hang time on the AM shot went to +14.
It looked like he was on the rise into the 300's this morning. I gave him his 1.25 units anticipating a further climb. Nope.

@ +2 he is already at 134.
Not sure if there is going to be a problem but this is the lowest he has been at this time and the insulin duration has been long lately.

I am going to test again in 15 minutes

+2.5 is 104. Seems to be slowing.

closing the barn door after the horse got out but.....that .5 was enough to move him down last night. You need to cut the dose back. If you want to know when you get a decent am or pmps, test, wait a1/2 hr. at least and test again. I have to double test Mishka many times to know what the heck she is doing.

Have you fed him again?

Mix some Karo into that food. You need to stop that drop or else he needs to go to the vet.

Sorry I can't really offer any advice since I am new also but you may want to edit your post and put 911 so more people will be apt to look at it.

Sev, rub some Karo on his gums.....quick spike till food kicks in. If his pancreas has kicked in plus the insulin, he is in danger. You might want to go to the vet.

Got any treats? I also keep high carb treats on hand, even they work quicker than canned food.

Just hairball and tarter treats.
Not sure what the carb content is on those.
The Friskies had a lot of gravy.

He has been ok in the 40's previously. However +6 is the earliest he ever hit it.

DO NOT RELAX! The food has spiked him up,,,,not sure if you added Karo. You may end up playing tug of war because he isn't near his normal peak time and he is probably going to go back down again. Give him a 1/2 hr. break, see what you get, no more food right now.

Does Kitty like ice cream? Vanilla ice cream is something else to keep on hand. After 3 cans of food and just trying to keep Mishka up, she didn't want anymore but she sure liked that ice cream.

Yup, you can just scrape the vanilla out and put in a dish. He doesn't need it now but if Kitty refuses more food when needed, ice cream works well. You can only use vanilla......no other flavor.

Yes, because if you go by his SS, the insulin is still working and he hasn't reached his average peak time yet. Don't trust him yet. I don't care where he is tonight, you need to drop the dose down. He drops too hard and fast and this surfing in the 40's is just too dangerous. Look what .5 did for his amps from last night pmps.

I was going to drop down to 1.0 this morning. I figured since he was near 300 and apparently rising it was safe to do another cycle @ 1.25.
Shows what I know.

I canceled my visit to the vet. I'll be picking up the blood work tomorrow.

Members are all over time zones. I'm also EST but slept in :mrgreen: There is Mountain, Central, Pacific, and then there are those that are on while we are sleeping from other countries.

I see he is going back down also. Do not feed the boy. Let him go down and see where he stops. Only interfere if he gets back into the 40 or lower range or if he hits 50 and is dropping too fast again.

Sev, when in doubt as to which way he is going for his shot times, test, do not feed, wait a 1/2 hr, test again.

Mishka is an excellent teacher :mrgreen: and even after 8 years she still pulls crap on me. If she had to wait to be regulated for a dental, her mouth would be a mess by now.

Hopefully once Kitty's teeth are cleaned things will become more predictable.

He went from 171 @7 to 429 @ +9

I guess the Friskies must have killed it. Sigh.
