Greetings again, everyone
Thanks for your help so far - here's the scoop. She woke up this morning and was clearly hungry! I've discovered Fancy Feast "appetizers", which aren't supposed to be full meals, but really do seem to jumpstart her appetite. She ate a whole container of that, and I syringe-fed her about a half a can of wet food. Unfortunately, she's just not used to eating a whole meal in one sitting, so it's really hard to get her to eat for more than a minute or two. But still, this is the first indication I've seen for a few days that she really wants food.
Here's her glucose numbers - I did a mini-curve last night, and got up at 4 this morning to do another test, but my machine kept coming up with test strip errors. Weird. Anyways, I'm giving her Humulin-N, and here are the numbers.
6:00PM - 337 mg/dL
6:18PM - food + insulin
8:00PM - 269 mg/dL
10:00PM - 177 mg/dL
11:00PM - 138 mg/dL
12:00AM - 134 mg/dL
And when I tested her at 7:30 this morning, she was only up to 231 mg/dL. Because of the drop of over 200 mg/dL last evening, I decided to decrease her insulin dose from 2 to 1.5 units to ensure she doesn't drop too low today.
So my questions are thus:
1. It seems that the nadir could be a little bit lower, but is awfully close to the ideal range. But her highest point yesterday was quite high. Is there a special trick for dropping the midpoint while keeping the nadir in about the same range?
2. Any specific advice from former or current Humulin-N users?
3. Is it ok to give her milk?
I think that's it for now. I'm going to get some ketone test strips today, as she's still quite dehydrated and slightly lethargic. Thank you all for your help so far!
