I haven't been on the boards lately because Ricey was OTJ and we were overjoyed. He kicked insulin in 12 days, amazing little guy that he was. Sadly yesterday, just 8 months after his diabetes diagnosis we lost Rice to cancer. It happened so quickly, he was at the vet Monday morning because he had stopped eating, underwent a blood transfusion Monday night, a needle biopsy to tell us it was a sarcoma in his spleen that had likely spread to his liver Tuesday morning and by Thursday evening he was gone. We had such hope for him, many more happy years we thought. He had ultrasounds in March and again in May. He had some slightly enlarged lymph nodes, but we thought possible IBD. Blood tests at the end of June came back perfect and he was looking great. His dandruff was gone, he coat shiny, he even grew back hair he had lost on his belly. He was just about to turn 13. We are in shock and so saddened.

Rice and I thank you all for all the help and support you provided when he was diagnosed. With the knowledge we gained here we were able to help him fight diabetes.

We'll miss him forever, he was a wonderful boy.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your little Rice. We all know the heartbreak that you're feeling.

One thing I was pleased to see was that it looks like you gave Rice a wonderful 8 months. Until the very end, he seemed to be doing so much better and that's a gift you can't take away from him...Or you!

Rest In Peace Sweet Rice. Fly on to the Bridge and there will be lots of kitties to welcome you. rb_icon

Send your mommabean your love...she'll feel it wings_cat

I feel your pain and am so sorry for your loss. I never knew how fast a sarcoma could take a little life until I lost one of my own recently. Fly free on your angel wings Rice!

Kim, My deepest sympathies are with you on the passing of your beloved kitty Rice. We are grieving with you. Sending you big hugs {{{{{Kim}}}}}. It never seems to be long enough, 13 years, 15, 20, before we have to say goodbye to our pets that have made such a difference in our lives.

I hope you can remember some of the good times you had and hold those memories close to your heart.

Lighting a ring of candles in sweet Rice's memory.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your buddy Ricey. I lost Tony just 3 nights ago having found out about his diabetes just 15 days ago, we were doing so well checking his blood and giving his shots , I really thought he was going to get better but his little kidneys gave out.Tony would have been 13 in about 4 months about the same age as Ricey. So I think we can both feel at ease knowing that Ricey and Tony each have a new friend in heaven...... So sorry for yor loss

(((((Kim))))) I'm so sorry.

Here's a poem that a FDMB member wrote that I hope will bring you some comfort.

Dear Mom,

I’m just about to take a nap, for I’ve been running free.
I was chasing butterflies, and one small bumble bee.
I’ve rolled around in catnip, I’ve climbed high in a tree
And now I’ll rest all cuddled up with others just like me.

I’m in a truly lovely place, it’s right by Heaven’s gate.
I’m not alone, and I am told this is the place to wait.
I’ve told everyone about you, they said you won’t be late.
That though on earth long years will pass, I’ll meet you by the gate.

There’s a bridge we’ll cross together, it has a rainbow hue
And really it’s so pretty here, that all I miss is you.
So please don’t think about the things you did or didn’t do
It was my time to find the bridge, so please do not feel blue.

I’m sorry that I left so fast, with just a kiss good-bye.
But I’ve enclosed a “head butt” and a slow blink of my eye.
Take care of all my family and tell them that I’ll try
To be the one that greets them first, when they come, by and by.

Love and thanks for being such a good mom,

Your “Sweet” Kitty
