Moms and dads of diabetic kitties, please go here:
http://www.felinediabetes.com/...
and
read all the sage advice and warm support the caring, giving people who
inhabit this site provide. You'll learn it's not the end of the world
if your cat is diagnosed with diabetes, you'll learn how many people are
currently managing their 'sugar babies' and you'll learn you can do it,
too. These kind folks are also full of good advice such as how to warm
your kitty's ear (helps blood flow) before you poke to test, and to put a
dab of vaseline on the test site to prevent the drop of blood from
dissipating before you get the test strip to it.... Honestly, this site
and the wonderful people there talked me off of so many cliffs when my
guy was diagnosed.
ALSO PLEASE NEVER INJECT WITHOUT TESTING
GLUCOSE LEVELS FIRST! I could have killed my guy one morning by
"shooting" (giving an insulin shot) and inducing hypoglycemia when his
levels were *below* the range they're supposed to be. My vet did not
like the fact that I insisted on testing his blood level before
injecting; told me it's not necessary to test. I changed vets.
Truly,
go to the forum posted above. Read, learn, post, get support, ask
questions. You won't find a nicer, more giving group of folks than the
ones there.
