After digging through some files, I found the 9/2011 records of Gobbles' dental surgery and WHEN the vet found/bioposed an ORAL EOSINOPHILIC GRANULOMA on his tongue. They are very detailed records. Then I found a record of Gobbles' initial visit to his new (since fired) vet on 9/6/12 (weight = 13.5 pounds). This is where he went for a senior wellness exam and had lots of bloodwork done; bloodwork profile & t4, total and ear swap cytology (which the vet called me a few days later and said everything looked good). It had escaped my memory but looking at the vet's note and my bill, Gobbles' had a mild ear infection, suspected regrowth of the granuloma, a steroid injection (doesn't state name of the steroid, just "injection sq", was prescribed clindamycin drops. On 11/17/12 (weight 11.5 pounds), I took him in due to poor coat, weight loss, ravenous thirst and appetite, foul mouth odor and had more bloodwork done: profile, t4, total. I got a call a few days later that he was diabetic. On 11/21/12 (weight 11.2 pounds) his stated, in vet's note, that the reason for visit: urinalysis & "show how to give insulin". The bill says "urine glucose test", injection sq and sold dm dry & cans. This is the vet who got fired as he would NOT give Gobbles an insulin prescribed (said could probably be controlled with the DM). I asked him why and could he test his BG (blood) where he proceeded to take Gobby in the back, then bring him back in the room and said his BG was "500" and that he would "give him a little insulin" injection (which he did). As soon as I got home, I called my new vet and they saw him immediately. Knowing what I now know, I am infuriated by the former vet! What a quack!
Isn't there a possibility that steroid injections can cause diabetes? He was basically fine in 9/2012. Two months later, he was a different cat. Gosh I value all of your "expertise"/opinions and just wanted to share all this with you and know your thoughts of same. Thanks!
