Gobbles - (please read post) - BG levels today 11/26/12

I'm still a little confused about the "coding" used here, but I will study it later....lol...I only have testing numbers starting from 11/23/12 as he is newly diagnosed
Here's Gobbles numbers for the last three days...Each dose is 1 U. My records for the first two days are so sloppy I am trying to decipher what I wrote down (I have since been making legible writing!!!)

11/24/12 - P.M. BG was 236 -- he ate 1 hour before testing (**very first insulin shot**)
11/25/12 - A.M. BG was 218 -- he ate 4 hours before BG test, and his P.M. BG was 311 -- he ate 3.5 hours before BG test
11/26/12 - A.M. BG was 289 -- he ate 3 hours before test

Any comments on the above numbers? Also, I am thinking that I should be taking his BG at the same intervals of time after feeding--and if so, can I take it always one hour after his feeding?? And after I shoot him, he meows after about 5 minutes, then again after about that time...????

Thanks in advance....I am trying....last night I was so tired I had to hit the pillow at 10 pm with the presumption that I would "just take a short nap"...when I woke up it was 11:45 and I freaked because I SHOULD of did test/shot at 11:15 pm...he is so worth all that I am trying to do for him, and I while really try to adhere to a strict schedule...I feel so bad for him, for what I have to do for him...and now I notice today that he probably has neuropathy (sp?) --cousin gave me a few Xobaline pills (3 mg) and I ordered a bottle today

1) test - to be sure it is safe to give insulin
2) feed - to be sure there are calories coming on board at the same time as the insulin
3) shoot - give the insulin

TEST before the next shot!!! If he is less than 200, do NOT give insulin.

Thanks BJM! Seems like so far he averages about 250-ish. So 200 is a good BG, then?

If you test roughly 15 minutes before you give insulin and he's in the 200s, that is looking good.

You do want to keep an eye out for how low he goes, somewhere around 5-7 hours after giving insulin, as the diet change plus insulin may gradually allow his pancreas to recover and resume functioning ... which could result in a hypo!

I sure hope so The vet did say that he may recover and his diabetes may be controllable with just diet...!!!
