Good Afternoon Everyone :-D

I got the call a little while ago from the vet, that I was dreading. Gobbles' fine needle aspiration showed nothing, no cancerous cells, nothing at all :RAHCAT Praise God! All the praying and vines here in LL worked!!!

I told him that this morning I examined the lump...it appears to me to be flatter and dryish-looking. He said that at this point in time, he does NOT want to remove it and that he would like me to keep an eye on it for changes, and if it grows or worsens, to get Gobbles in to see him.

He asked me if I had neosporin w/hydrocortisone on hand to put on it. I told him that I didn't, but that I do have neosporin w/pain relief that I use when I test his BG. He asked me to read him the ingredients, and once done, said to keep that on it for a week (he knows that I'm leery of anything that has any type of steroid in it). If after a week, it is not better, to try hydrocortisone neosporin; he assured me that used once daily, the steroid would not affect him (as far as a relapse of FD).

i asked him what the heck it could be, and he said possibly a skin lesion of some sort, bug bite or possibly allergy (but less likely).

I will continue to examine it daily and keep the neosporin w/pain relief (though I don't think the "pain relief" is necessary--the lump does not hurt him) on it each day...

Thank you everyone for your concern, prayers and vines! I've included a picture of Gobby in his Blobby mode yesterday, getting much-needed exercise

Kat, I have been watching and waiting for this post. AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!! You must be so relieved!!! I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am to read this good report!!!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! Great news, Kat!! See, I told you he just lost that fight with a spider.

I'm so happy it was nothing. Now go have a relaxing glass of wine and some pasta!!! You deserve it.

HUGS!!!

It's always disappointing when we hear our majestic hunters lost the battle with a bug  BUT....GLORY BE for the negative results!! That's such great news for you both! I was looking yesterday for news and was so worried you'd heard bad news and just couldn't bear to post it, so this is wonderful!!

YEAH GOBBLES!!!

Just FYI on the hydrocortisone cream...it's quite different from using PO or IM steriods...it's not absorbed through the skin very well and the level of OTC steroid in the creams are very tiny...so as long as you don't bathe him in it several times a day, even if you need to use a little, it shouldn't hurt his BG :-D

Hi Kat, I'm so happy it was nothing. One of my girls had a cyst and the doctor opened it with a needle and squeezed the stuff out. It was also nothing.
Now, now more worries for you, yeah!
Have a great day!

I hate to be a downer, but the most accurate interpretation is that the sampled area tested did not show anything. This is not quite the same thing as saying the entire lesion is benign.

So I would relax some and keep an eye on it. Maybe monitor the size after a few days to see if it is changing.

Yahoo!!!! Sigh of relief spreading out in Lantus Land. Don't you hear the sound of the breeze in the trees?
I agree with Deb - drinking09 time for the bean to have a little medication too. Love the picture of the relaxing boy.

What the vet had said was there was no cancer, cancerous cells...I assume that a FNA doesn't rule it out; is there some % of accuracy? I'm sorry, but I'm not quite following ohmygod_smile He didn't use the words malignant or benign... Also, what are your thoughts on using the neosporin w/pain relief vs. neosporin w/hydrocortisone? I'm not really opposed to the one with hydrocortisone; I should of asked him why he recommended that to begin with....isn't that variety of neosporin for skin conditions like eczema?

Whenever you biopsy something, you try to get a good specimen that represents much of the lesion. Even so, it is possible to miss tumorous cells in a newly developing lesion of mixed types. Hence "keep an eye on it for changes".

Its like a mole - you can have a mole for years and it does nothing. The day you see it begin to change is the day you arrange to take it out. And you might use the same ABCDEs in monitoring - Asymmetry, Border irregularities, Color changes, Diameter greater than a pencil eraser, and Evolving (changing)

The Neosporin will reduce any bacterial component if one exists and is susceptible.
The steroid component will specifically target inflammation, which happens with an allergic reaction to a bite or contact with an irritant.

There is a terrific wound/skin spray available. It is a little pricey but it is great for dogs, cats and horses. It is Vetericyn. Does not contain cortisone. Cortisone has caused lesions in one of my cats and also my horse who has allergic dermatitis from no-seeums here in FL. This stuff has worked great. Also another old remedy is Preparation H. Believe it or not it works. Good luck, keep us posted.

Kat that is wondeful news. I'm so happy for you and Gobbles. I hope it heals up completely and doesn't bother him. That's a great pic of Gobbles.

There are a variety of Preparation H versions ... look at the ingredients carefully.

Preparation H ointment - phenylephrine/mineral oil/petrolatum
Preparation H Cream - phenylephrine/pramoxine/glycerin/petrolatum
Preparation H Cooling Gel - phenylephrine/witch hazel
Preparation H Anti-Itch Cream - hydrocortisone

Phenylephrine is a decongestant to reduce swelling
pramoxine - is a mild anesthetic
witch hazel - may reduce itching/inflammation
hydrocortisone - steroid

Thanks BJM. I use Equate version of Prep H. It contains the original formula, shark oil, etc. I stopped using Prep H when they changed the formula.

Thank you for the analogy--I get it now. With regard to ABCDEs--I will do that type of monitoring. And I suppose that giving the regular Neosporin a week to work is probably the best course of action? Then if no change, try the Neosporin w/hyrdocortisone...??? I feel like just calling the vet and having him schedule surgery, but he was very reluctant about ordering surgery (I doubt he'd do it without giving the lump a few weeks) at this point in time, but did say that if doesn't improve, or changes, that he wants to remove it...

Whew! Vigilant Mom can relax some & breathe & enjoy life........Always good to keep one eye on it, too! Congrats on the good news! Now we just need to send reducing vines so that it goes away on its own......

Thanks everyone for your support. The lump is now more of a bump..it has definitely flattened out. The center of it looks irritated--I've been putting neosporin w/pain relief on it for 2 days, but now am trying the neosporin w/hydrocortisone...I am surely keeping an eye on it, measuring it, taking pictures... Gobbles is licking it though, and I'm thinking that maybe, that is making it worse.... so many variables!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Gobbles!!

I am so happy to read some great news!!

just for you and Gobbles: I am going to enjoy a vivid vanilla.......
