Glucose readings in the 80s - Not sure what to do

My cat Fluffy had one of those bad hypoglycemic episodes when we picked her up from the vet when we boarded her over Christmas. We ended taking her to an emergency vet clinic where it took quite a bit to save her.

They told me that she wasn't diabetic anymore.

Lately she has been drinking a lot and peeing a lot. So I bought a glucometer and have been testing her. Every reading is in the low 80s. Obviously I am not going to give her insulin with those "normal" readings.

Should I make an appointment with a new vet to discuss options? Keep testing her? I do not want to take her back to the place that almost killed her.

She is acting normal besides the drinking and peeing a lot.

You are right in not using insulin. When Fluffy was at the vet did they do any blood work? Do you have copies? Maybe Fluffy has kidney problem.
In any event I would go to the vet and make sure the your vet has any information like blood work results taken by the ER vet.

Hi Kat,

It could also be a UTI (urinary tract infection).
I agree with Larry; it does sound like a vet visit is needed to find out what's going on.

Well done for hometesting, BTW. It's good to continue to monitor the blood glucose of kitties in remission. It isn't always permanent. And by hometesting periodically you may be able to 'nip any problems in the bud'.

Keeping fingers and paws crossed that all goes well with the vet visit.

kidneys would make sense. Yes have copy of what they did. Just blood glucose. Okay. Will make appointment with new vet. Thank you.

This is what worries me about leaving my babies at their cattery while I'm overseas for five weeks in May / June. The cattery has experience with Diabetic cats, but I'm scared as they can go into remission so abruptly.

I hope Kitty will be ok and that you can find out what's causing her symptoms soon!

Which glucometer are you using for testing? A human glucometer (brand and style) or a pet glucometer like the Alphatrak II (horribly expensive test strips)?
