Glucose Monitor suggestions

I see the relion is commonly recommended and on the cheaper side. Honestly I feel overwhelmed and unsure since this is all so new. I want to make it easy for myself but also my baby so I'm willing to spend a little money up front for convenience out of my savings. Is there a monitor not necessarily the most high end thing there is, but something well know for the most ease of use and ease of getting a sample from my cat? I help manage my dads care post stroke so anything that can make the process easier would go a long way.
 
If the ReliOn is available in your area just go with that. I wouldn’t call it “cheap”, maybe more “cost effective”. It functions just fine and is no harder or easier to use than other manual meters I’ve seen...

Edit: With the money you save over other meters, buy a second ReliOn as a backup!

I bought a slightly more expensive ReliOn because the meter would send data to an app on my phone. It worked, but I didn't love the app. It hijacked some of my phone settings. I don't use the app anymore. I just put the data in the spreadsheet directly from the meter. The meter stores a lot of values (200?). Mine doesn't require a big sample of blood, and it charges instead of using batteries. I like the meter, the app... not as helpful as I thought it would be. It did make graphs for BG trends. Kinda cool. ReliOn Platinum is what I got. The strips are a tiny bit more expensive than the strips for the other ReliOn meters.

Walmart has the ReliOn Premier monitor for $19.99 and the Premier strips are $9.00 for 50 and $17.88 for 100, you should always have extra strips available for a day you need to test frequently:bighug::bighug::cat::cat:
 
If you have FSA or HSA, you can use those funds for a Human blood glucose meter and test strips and any (Human) diabetic supply your cat needs (such as Lantus or ketone test strips). Just keep the receipts and submit them for reimbursement if you don't pay for the items directly with an account card.

I don't have a WalMart so I use a brand name sold widely in any store pharmacy, AccuChek. I buy test strips online and have an option of going to the local pharmacy in a pinch if I need test strips.
