Hello! Bart, our 11 year old part Maine Coon male has been diagnosed with diabetes. We took him to the vet because he was walking funny. He got x-rays and pain pills. Two weeks later I asked the vet if it could be diabetes and finally got blood work done. He was at 312 in the vets office. Sent home with DM and said we did not need to get meter for him. Well I ordered the Bayer Contou next EZ that night. He is now at 225 with diet change. I am still adjusting his diet. He is on Evo and Young Again Dry and Friskie Pate, Fancy Feast Classic and now Iam's Delights Winner, Winner with chicken Dinner which is supposed to be 2% carbs.
My questions are: I understand there are some odd ingredients in the Iam's Winner, Winner with chicken Dinner BUT he loves it. It is a bit spendy but if he will eat it, I am happy as long as it is OK for him to have.. Thoughts anyone??
Also the vet said he does not need insulin till he stays above 300. Not sure on that one. Anyone?? I really do not want to start him unless he have to do so. He also said when he does start (if he does) it will be Lantus.
He has a flea issue at the moment and I want to give Advantage. I have not seen anything posted about giving a Sugar Baby flea meds. Anyone help me with this also?? He needs it. With long hair brushing is not the answer.
Bart used to eat 1/2 dry hairball food and wet on top. We are now giving him Cat Lax for his hairballs. He has to have something for hairballs. Thoughts on that also??
Besides the Cat Lax we are giving him 1 Tab of Zobaline and has been on it 26 days with some walking improvement. Anyone give 2 a day??
This is long so I will stop here. We are a 7 cat family. 3 outside always, 1 inside always and 3 that go in and out and always in at night. Bart is one that goes in and out. All rescues. Bart was found in a dumpster with his sister. He is 13 pounds. He has lost three pounds but he always slims down in the summer so as long as he does not drop more I am not too worried about that yet..
Thank you in advance for any help on the above. Barb
