I have been using a ReliOn Ultima on Noodle for a month. Two days ago, my sis-in-law gave me her Accu-Chek Nano and some new strips. Just for the heck of it, I ran a few tests on Noodle's ear, from the same blood drop using both meters and the meters were usually between 40-60 points apart, with the ReliOn always coming in higher. I understand about the + or - 20% error factor but how do you possibly judge a safe dose when your kitty's number might vary 100 points? This really has me nuts! Can anyone advise? Thanks!

Never used the Ultima but I have a human diabetic friend (cjleo on this board)who loves the Nano. Just the strips are pricey but since her insurance covers them she uses it for herself as well as her 3 sugarcats.

Thanks Mel. If I thought the Nano was more accurate I'd gladly buy the strips even though they are pricey. The peace of mind is worth it. I know BG readings are far from exact but the margin of error I saw distresses me. Thanks for letting me know that your friend has a positive view of the Nano. I may switch over for a week or two and see how it goes. Thanks.

Since I've been checking Skunky's BG I can't get that silly AccuChek Nano song out of my head.

"AccuCheck Nano, fits in your life, 43% more accurate, feels soooo right"
I think that's the percentage. I've been wondering about it myself.

Hi everyone,

I love the AccuChek Nano but my reasons are a little different. It is small, fits well in my hand, doesn't need coding, and it is black. Also, I've used AccuChek products since 1980 when I got my first meter.

When I was working, I thought it looked a little less intrusive, more professional. Remember, I'm a human diabetic on a pump, testing 5-8 times a day.

As to accuracy, the Nano is still probably 20% off despite the ad. I've had my Sorianna in for bloodwork 3 times in the last 5 weeks. I think that the Nano is running a bit higher in the higher numbers (over 300). In the normal ranges it is closer to the lab my vet is using. Ear tests and vein draws do tend to vary. But you have my conclusion.

I have several meters in my house, but my go to for kitty cats is the Nano. Because it fits so nicely in my hand, I can quickly test any kitty who inclines to be fractious.

Luckily, I don't pay for my strips. If I did, I might have to reconsider my use of Nano.

Hi Claudia,
Thanks for your thoughts. It's nice to hear from someone that has a lot of experience with this meter. Sometimes I wonder how accurate any of them are consistently. I really like the Nano but my husband likes the ReliOn simply because he says the Nano is too small for his big ol' hands to handle. But the strips are expensive. I worry about the margin of error while I'm trying to get Noodle regulated. My vet uses an AlphaTrak and I don't understand how to interpret the difference. Thanks for your response.
