Being relatively new to all this, I'm finally feeling more confident with doing ear sticks. Screechy seems more comfortable and so am I. I just went to test him and got ERR. Tested him a second time and got the same thing. What causes errors on glucometers? Am I doing something wrong, but I've been testing him for a couple of weeks now. So discouraged right now.

Is the strip going in far enough? What meter are you using? Are you getting enough blood? Maybe try it on yourself with a bit more blood?

You have been doing this for a while now so maybe there is a problem with the meter itself.

It's a Target Up & Up. It's what the rescue gave me to use for him. It sucked up the blood quickly and made the beep; seemed like everything was working fine. Then ERR comes up. I'll double check tomorrow that the strip is all the way in, but I believe it was. Just so frustrating. But Screechy got treats after both tries so I think he's fine with it all.

Any other icons on the screen? Battery low? New batch of strips? Expired strips?

Test yourself, it could also be an extreme high or low maybe...

1. Sometimes too much blood can flood the test strip and cause an error.
2. There should be a specific error code that is displayed. What was that code?
3. Where the strips kept nice and dry, away from light and heat, lid always tightly closed?
4. Are the strips past the expiration date? I've used strips 6 months past expiration and no problems.
5. There are usually user manuals for the meters available on the internet. You might search for one.
6. Do you have a different vial of test strips? you might want to try a strip from a new bottle.

I don't have the instructions, but I just send an email to the rescue trying to find them. Maybe one of his other fosters has them. The screen just said ERR nothing else :( The strips are stored appropriately and I believe are not expired. They were purchased when he came into rescue in March, so I can't imagine them expiring so quickly. I don't have them handy at the moment. I will check everything out in the morning. Calling it a night and going to try to relax just a little. Thanks for all your help.

Just tested myself and got the same error. It's saying ER2. I'll have to call the number in the morning. And the test strips don't expire until 2014.

Called 800-440-0680 for Target product customer service. Waited 11 minutes to get transferred to pharmacy department, only to be hung up on by an automated message. Called direct to the pharmacy contact number at 877-798-2743. on hold 5 minutes and got zero information after talking to a corporate headquarters person for 12 minutes.

She did say you will need to provide the information from the back of the meter. An item number, manufacturer date any other information from the back of the meter. Even then, the pharmacy customer service rep said the buying department would have to determine exactly when the meter was manufactured and theymight, only might be able to send you a new manual. Maybe not if it was too old.

If the rescue was the original purchaser of the meter and still has the box, Target sounded like they were more willing to provide a manual. Since this meter was passed along to you, they did not seem very helpful and had no knowledge of the error codes and were not willing to share the manufacturer of the product who might have an on-line manual. Proprietary information you know, so they would not share that with a consumer.

Could not even give me a clue as to what the error codes could mean.

She did suggest you might call your local Target, connect to the pharmacy department and ask for someone to check a box for a manual and what the error codes mean. They may not be willing to open a box for a glucometer. Do not tell them this is for your cat. They will probably say they can not help you at all. You could tell them this is for yourself, since you did test yourself and got the same error.

For a Relion Confirm meter error code 2,can mean the meter is too cold <50 degrees F or too hot >104 degrees. Are you having a heat wave or a cold spell?

Who knows what error code 2 means with that up and up meter. Can mean either a problem with the meter, a problem with the test strip or a HI bg > 600 or something else entirely.

You might be better off to go directly to Target, say the meter and test strips are defective and ask for a new meter.

Just my two cents worth.

ETA: Hey, I love doing research so calling and twigging the customer service reps was fun!!!!

I called the 800-number on the back of the glucometer with my question. She asked if I had called earlier. Of course I said no and couldn't imagine why she asked me that. Guess it was you she was asking about. LOL! She did tell me the ER2 code could be from too little blood. Ugh! I tried again this morning and did get a reading. Just when I think I have this down, too little or too much blood is an issue. I wonder why she wouldn't tell you.

Okay, I'll get back to getting readings with this meter. I was about to go out and buy a new one, but will hold on and see if this works. Someone also told me if it gets an error message once it might take a bit to "reset" and to give it a little time in between testing.

I have the rescue in the process of searching for the instructions. I can't believe Target doesn't have them online. Aren't all owners manuals online anymore? Geesh!

I do appreciate your help.
