Looks like OTJ Trial day 2 to me. You might change the AMPS to AMBG which shows you did not shoot. Keep it green Glen!

I was all prepared to shoot 0.1u today too! I'm at work today so at least I won't be worrying about him.

I have to also phone around and find a place to take Glen for his teeth. I guess they are really bad :( Vet thinks that is why he quit kibble. I'm not sure, Glen still eats it if offered the chicken one not the fish :rolleyes:Regardless, he needs a cleaning for sure!

So exciting! Go Glen! Bad teeth has actually cause some to go OTJ so I would get those teeth cleaned soon.

How is Glen feeling today?
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/took-glen-to-vet-twitching-hes-ok.171015/

Gizmo has done the twitching thing (paws, tail, ears) when he was hard, sound asleep recently. I think he is so content with his BG low and tummy full and laying in front of the space heater that he is dreaming. I usually just go over and just love on him a bit to wake him up a bit and it stops.
He seems ok. I haven't been able to stop this morning and take a close look at him, but nothing standing out. He does it when sleeping or just relaxing.

He is going in tomorrow to have them checked. They said if they need to they will be done then if possible.
To get a good cleaning they need anesthesia. So did they tell you not to feed after midnight? Just scaling could miss big problems. You can read about dentals. Look on the where can I find list.

Yes, they said not to feed after midnight. Just in case. She said the vet works in the morning only but if Glen needs it done urgently he will stay and do it in the afternoon.

That's a great vet! Good luck with the dental. Has he ever had one? If not it's probably needed.

Glad things are going smoothly. Guess the threat of regular juice caused Glen to jump back in the lagoon! L&L Land threats work wonders! ;)

If he needs a dental, as Elise said, that could certainly account for the higher BGs. Hopefully afterward he'll sail right through a trial on the way to OTJ. Paws are crossed!

I know! I feel terrible about his teeth :( I didn't know they were that bad.

He did awhile ago. He broke a tooth and I found it in my slipper - otherwise I would have never known! He removed that tooth because it broke off at the root and he has had one just fall out.

Dentals are pricey but if you are going to do it they have to be done right. My vet is old school and didn't do X-rays. Many do and it's probably a good thing. When passed passed he only had a few teeth left and I think over his 19 years only had 5-6 pulled. The rest just fell out though I never found even one. He started getting yearly cleanings when around 7-8 years I think.

I'm Facebook friends with someone that works at the SPCA and this is where they take their animals. He also goes here for his pets dental work. Hoping he's right!

Hope the dental goes well today. I need to get my little guy into the vet for one as well!
Everything went well. Glen is a bit stoned! He is super hungry and thirsty. Giving to him in small amounts but he seems high and happy!

He had 13 teeth removed!

The vet and vet tech were all super impressed with how I (we) have managed Glen's diabetes. I'm giving him a break and will grab a test tonight but not until later.

WOW.....he really needed that dental!!!

Go easy on the food....most of us keep some baby food (meat only) for soon after dentals and start with a teaspoon at a time until we know they're eating well without having any nausea from the anesthetic.

It's actually important that you test....anesthesia can cause the blood glucose to run a lot lower than normal

Yo Glen!!....Dat toof fairy owes you big time!! Don't furget to puts yur toofs under yur pillow tonight! ~ China

I gave him small amounts over a couple of hours. I'll grab a test...

His dental was at 10:00am. They said he ate a bit of food there but was ravenous when he came home! He has pretty much chewed down a tin of FF. And he's used the litter box. What a champ :D

I'm glad Glen got through his dental OK and is interested in eating. That's a lot of teeth! He's going to feel so much better once his mouth settles down from the extractions.

We can't get all meat babyfood in this part of Canada. The only meat baby food we can get is loaded with carbs. Adding water to and purreeing his regular food should be fine.

He hasn't had insulin for 7 cycles now. Give him a break, no need to test. And not all anesthesia's lower blood glucose. And in fat the anesthesia induction drug that is commonly used in Canada, and only more recently starting to be used in the US, has little impact on the BG's.

Did you get any antibiotics or pain medication to give Glen while he heals the next few days?

Yes, they gave him the antibiotic injection Covenia that lasts 7 days or something like that! And bupronephrine for pain.

I know metacam is frowned upon but I already have that just in case. But planning on sticking with the bupronephrine.

Buprenorphine is a better choice than metacam for sure. Convenia is not the best solution as an AB. It actually lasts more like weeks than days. If kitty is allergic, you are fighting that for a long time. It was also created for "convenience" of the owners and is best for skin infections. Clindamycin is a better AB for oral infections. I expect your vet will want to see Glen in about a week to make sure he's healing fine.

Why do vets do that? Give something because it's easier? I want the best for him. If that means I pill him, I pill him!

The said to bring him back in 1-2 weeks to check that sutures are dissolving and just to check.
