He's making it difficult.
But as long as you are prepared to monitor today, I would go ahead and shoot the 0.25 as discussed yesterday.

Make sure you get a +1 and a +2, post the results. If his numbers warrant it you may need to steer with food early on to encourage him to surf.
 
With that +1 he is playing his cards close to his chest, not much of a food bump....
the +2 might be more informative.
I don't think you need to steer with food at the moment, but do get that +2, if he does drop significantly by +2 then you may need to steer with food. Post up and we'll take it from there.
 
+3, he is probably going to be ok, but as insulin is just onsetting, and we don't have too much data for him, that would be a cautious approach.
 
Question: when I am not around to gather tests on Glen I can leave him snacks in the automatic feeder, but non of my cats come running to it when it opens. I swear, if I'm not home they stay in bed until someone comes home, so, unless I'm here to offer snacks in front of his face he doesn't seem to eat, even when his BS is low. How do I manage that? He could drop and he has no inclination to eat.

Glen is very picky so if he doesn't love the flavour he just won't eat it :rolleyes:
I have another the same way. I have every version of LC fancy feast in my cupboard and they really only like the fish ones, if that. Glen likes raw - but only chicken LOL
LC Friskies is out of the question. I think they would rather be miserable and starve! I always give it to them but a lot gets thrown away for sure.

I sort of had the same problem with the auto feeder I started feeding him out of it when I was home I would make sure I went and got him and tested him a few mins before the auto feeder would open up so he would hear the sound and then after the test I would take him to the feeder He started associating the sound with food and now he will come up from the basement when he hears it opening even though I don't feed him out of it anymore unless I am not going to be home . Others might have other tips that worked for them .
 
Still heading down, not too dramatic. But it's still early in the cycle, and not much data for glen...

My tactic would be to give him a LC snack (ateaspoon or two) now and check in an hour.

This is more a data gathering exersise than anything else. You could leave it two hours, but personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

When glen dropped into the 40s did he not look for food then?

Hmmm does he live much when u are out.
Bfg doesn't move from his daytime spot much, so I put the feeder by his bed, that way it's sort of in his face when it turns. He is quite good motivated so I've never had that worry, the only thing that might trump a snack is a catnap:rolleyes:

In anticipation of tonight, should I plan to shoot if he's >~150 again?
I will not have the capacity to test him like I did today!
 
I'm not going to be around for pmps, I should think that if he is over 150, then you are ok to shoot, if you then got a dramatic drop by +2, you would need to assess what to do.

It's tricky with him not eating without encouragement.

I'll see if so e othrs can look round.

Should I keep testing or can I give Glen a break?
 
The way we started punkin using the autofeeder was to feed all of his meals there - so he got used to seeking food there, not just snacks when we were gone. You might try that and see how it goes.

I think you can take a break from so much testing. He's nice and flat for now.

I'm not sure what to tell you about shooting tonight. Everything suggests that he still needs insulin, but you're saying you can't monitor. It's a conundrum.
Perhaps working on getting him to eat from the autofeeder - if you could count on that, it would be so helpful.

He eats from it...when he is hungry. When he starts dipping he still doesn't seem to have an appetite so doesn't even go to the feeder to look for food. It's just not that helpful to use it in order to prevent him from a low. I think he has to be pretty low for him to seek it out.
I'll keep working at it.

I think if he is close to what he was this AM I will shoot. I can get a +2 and can steer with food if necessary.
I've got to sort this cat out! Unfortunately I think he has his own agenda :rolleyes:

He hasn't had that much of an appetite today. But I have tried some new foods/flavours without success. He does pick at his food for sure. None of them really like what I have offered :rolleyes: I would say he he has eaten a bit less than usual but not a ton.
I am still trying to figure out what "normal" amounts of wetfood is for him since quitting kibble.
And I think since he has lowered his blood sugars he's not needing so much food!

A couple of weeks ago, before starting insulin, I noticed glen dropped quite a bit of weight. I would say that glen has stabilized his weight, if not gained a bit back.

Not too sure what he is up to, but thinking that him quitting kibble has a lot to do with it.

I am trying to give the other 2 boys LC food and they tend to eat less of that then the HC Friskies for sure. Definitely a process for sure!

Glen seems to have eaten his regular amount of food. He ate more than the other 2 so I'm happy with that.
He's gone to bed under my bed so no more testing tonight.
