Ashley H & Gizmo
Member Since 2017
Gizmo - 8 yr old male Tabby - was recently diagnosed (June 21st 2017). He's receiving 2 units of Lantus, 2x a day.
We've only been doing the injections for 3 full days (today is day #4) and he seems to be feeling better. However, I'm not sure if that's from the insulin or the antibiotic. I am concerned that, perhaps, he may not be diabetic after all, considering that stress and/or pain increase blood glucose levels.
Sorry this is long, but I'm just a concerned CatMom trying to not freak out!
And since I'd been reading so much info here, I decided it was probably best to just join the forums in case anything weird arises...especially outside of vet hours.
- We went to the vet becasue he peed in the bed and our dirty laundry hamper. But we'd also noticed that he had been drinking a lot and using his litter box more than usual.
- We obtained a urine sample, at home, which also showed that he had a pretty bad urinary tract infection (inflammation?) which he was given Convenia for. (I have since read some horror stories about this antibiotic and am very thankful he's been doing just fine on it...although I am not pleased that the vet gave, essentially, no info on it other than it lasted 7 days. Shame on me for not asking, but I was a tad overwhelmed/stressed.)

- We moved from KS to CO last year, which he did okay with. Then we moved into a new apartment on June 9th. Move/carrier + new environment = stress
- Shortly before moving, I was gone for about a week due to family events back home in MO. He has had stress-related cystitis before due to my schedule/life events.
- Diagnosed with a "raging" UTI (pain/stress).
