My cat has never really noticed that I gave her the shots in the scruff of the neck untill a few days ago and now she gets really upset whenever I get close to her. I would put her food down and while she was eating i would tent up the scruff the way the vet showed and it was done with. Now she runs away if I try to give her the shot. Are there anyother ways to give her the shot?

I have a few ideas

1. How about you shoot when she is eating? When her face is in the food she shouldnt notice
2. Ask the vet or do it yourself and shave a few spots on his body so you can see better
3. choose a short needle - what kind are you using? Then pull the skin up by the fur and inject at a shallow angle. With a short needle and shallow angle you dont need to worry so much about a big tent or pinching.
4. Here is a shot placement map - you can vary where you do it: http://www.bd.com/ca/diabetes/english/page.aspx?cat=14501&id=14874

Thanks I will try a different spot. I had been giving it to her when she was eating but now as soon as I tuch her neck when she is eating she knows what is happening. She just never used to feel it.

Are you pointing the needle straight down or at about a 30 degree angle from horizontal?

If yu hit muscle, it can be more painful.

Hows things going now? I think she needs another increase - still lots of high numbers. Maybe talk to your vet?

Are you still having shooting issues?

The same thing is happening with my cat now! For almost a month she barely noticed when I shot her while she was eating. Yesterday morning I accidentally hit muscle and she jumped, but I got her shot in her last night and this morning no problem. Then, tonight, as soon as I got the needle in her, she moved and wouldn't let me shoot. I alternate between right and left side anywhere along her back between her shoulder blades and her hips and she was NOT letting me tonight. She tested high and I can't get it in her and now I'm worried if this is gonna be a new, ongoing thing. She wasn't very hungry tonight, but now that she's "on" to me, is it gonna be a battle every time?

I have got her to take her shots like nothing is happening by getting her comfy and laying down. She gets it in the hip now. That seems to be working better for now.

Sounds like a good plan - I usually alternate my spots depending on how the boys are lying down..

She is still high. Have you put any more thought into switching to a better insulin?
