Giving shots late, advice please!

So my mom let Riley out this morning before I even gave him his shot. I hadn't even woken up yet. She has never, ever done this. She said she was half asleep but I just cannot fathom what the hell she was thinking. She knows the schedule, but I digress....

At this point Riley has not come home and he's just over 3 hours late for his 2 units of Lantus. He was also supposed to have his glucose curve tomorrow which we now have to cancel.

Should I give him his shot when he comes home or just wait for the evening shot? He's never missed a shot before.

You can either wait for the evening shot or you can do two 18 hour cycles (if he's home by +6 today)

Example of two 18 hour cycles with normal shot times 6am/6pm.... and you missed the 6am shot (I don't know what time you usually shoot, so using 6/6 as example)

Shoot regular dose at noon today (which ends up being 18 hours after his last shot last night). Skip the 6pm shot completely and shoot again 18 hours later...in this example, 6am tomorrow morning....and you're back on schedule

Too bad you can't keep your cat indoors at all times, safe, loved, and cared for, especially for his diabetic needs. There are so many good reasons to keep a kitty indoors 100% of the time, plus you can monitor him much more carefully. The BEST way, in my opinion.

Yes, I agree. Riley is a rescue, he was feral most of his life. He's mostly indoors now, but he still goes out in the mornings and usually comes back relatively soon. He will bolt out the door regardless but he's starting to adjust more as all of my rescues have eventually. He's the last one, a work in progress.
