Giving pills without pockets

Maybe this has been discovered long ago :-D but I re-discovered it and want to share it. Ragnar has gotten tired of Pill Pockets (just after I bought 6 more packages!!), no matter what treats I roll them in, so I've been giving his pills by putting them in the back of his mouth. He doesn't have a problem with it - even Azodyl (it might help that he's a big cat with a big throat, and a very patient guy too). Anyway, I found that if I give him a treat or two first, or some food, he will salivate, and the pill will slide right down! (He's pretty adept at spitting them out, but it will slide down if Mommy puts it far enough back, or else if she's more persistent than he is. He never gets upset enough to get up and walk away, though, bless his little heart.)

Another option, if its ok to dissolve it, is to place it in an oral syringe, add some water, shake until dissolved, then give by shooting towards the back corner of the mouth. You don't shoot straight back as that can make it easier to aspirate the liquid into the lungs.
 
Make sure to syringe water in him after giving pills this way.

Also, you may want to rub the pills in butter, it will make them slide down easier. Plus give him a little tasty treat too.
