Claudia and Rocket on Lantus need prayers. Rocket is fighting something serious - high temp and lethargy. She asked me to post for advice on when to give baytril and if there are any drugs that have to be given at different times.

Current regimin:
morning: Given lantus, phenobarbital, pepcid AC and ondansetron. (Was giving Pred up until this morning).
Evening:Pred, lantus

Can she give baytril in the AM along with everything else?

Do any of you have experience on tapering back on pred? She was giving 1/2 pill in both the AM and the PM. The vet wants her to cut back to just PM. Is this the recommendation of most vets?

I don't know if its the recommendation of most vets.

I do know that in humans, a more 'pulsed' dosing - once every 24 hours - gives the adrenal glands the chance to function a bit in between doses instead of being continuously suppressed by the prednisone. That's necessary to make sure the adrenals don't get permanently suppressed. To the extent that is true for cats, it may be helpful in reducing the dose. A second, later step in humans, would be alternate day dosing.

My Plumbs says:

"Antacids containing cations (Mg**, Al**, CA**) may bind to enrofloxacin/ciprofloxacin and prevents its absorption. Enrofloxacin may cause CNS stimulation and should be used with caution in patients with seizure disorders."

Because of these two items I wouldn't give the Baytril in the morning. Check with your vet on dosage to see if it might need adjusted down some.

FWIW,
Dale

5:30 AM Lantus, pheno, pepcid AC and ondansetron
7:00AM Prednisolone, buprenorphine

4:30 PM Buprenorphine
5:30PM Lantus, pheno, pepcid AC and ondansetron
7:00PM Prednisolone
My mistake nightime is pred, lantus, pheno, pepcid.
11:30 Buprenorphine

He is on binders also.

Dale can you maybe help convert the plumbs into natural language? Is it the antacid that is the issue or the pheno or the baytril? I've updated her dosing regimin above. Pred is going to be switched to once a day.
