i'm aware that the folks on the main health board have said multiple times recently that they are feeling stretched thin. just wondering if i can encourage everyone who posts regularly on Lantus Land to stop by Main Health once a day or so to see if anyone needs help.

FDMB works because of people with more experience teaching those with less experience - so even if you are newer, you can probably help give advice on food, testing, giving shots, the value of a spreadsheet, etc. - just give advice about what you feel secure about.

here are the posted guidelines on giving advice - a great reminder for all of us!
Suggestions for Advice Givers, by Janet & Binky

of course, all of that applies to giving advice here on Lantus Land as well. if you give less than perfect advice someone else will come along behind you and add their 2 cents worth as well.

Thanks for the reminder, Julie.

Although I have been reading posts in the main Health board, I just don't feel ready to jump in and add comments.

BUT I have been checking in on the Tech forum and offering help there since I am a techie nerd laptop_smiley

My point being that everyone can help out in their own way whether it's working with the pet caregiver directly on giving advice for their pet or indirectly by helping them solve their technical problems. Either way, we are helping kitty!

perfect example, cathy. the main thing is that this is a peer-driven-reviewed forum - no paid peeps!

with so many kitters in need whenever/wherever you feel like you can contribute, that's awesome.

My way of giving back is to maintain the LL Master Spreadsheet. I'll give advice if there is NO ONE else available. I figure I know more than nobody. :-D

What I think is always appropriate is to indicate what you may have done/are doing with your cat. However, ECID. You can always PM someone you know has experience with a particular issue. I have no experience with rodent ulcers. Someone in Health asked about this. I do know that Devon (PeterDevonMocha) has had experience with this problem and suggested that the person send a PM to Devon. Networking can be very helpful.

We are a community. We help each other in whatever way we can. Sometimes simply being there to offer support and understanding is far more than what many people who come here expect during what may be admittedly, a very difficult time in their lives. As many of you have pointed out to each other, LL is the best place you could never want to be.

The prevailing "wisdom" on a thread in Think Tank is that LL is inflexible and we insist that Lantus should be dosed in a particular way with no understanding of a person's scheduling needs, finances, lifestyle, etc. Those of you who have posted have addressed the fallacy of the logic being presented. The best way to counteract these perceptions is to be the wonderful members of this community that you are and extend a hand to the new people on Health. They are standing in the shoes you stood in days, weeks, months, or even years ago. Any assistance you can offer to help them prepare for this journey will be welcomed. As Julie suggested, lending a hand in getting someone up to speed with the basics of food, a spreadsheet, consistency of dose and shot time and, above all, that we are here to help will be a hugely generous gesture.

Thanks to all for this information. Liz and I feel so new that we don't appreciate perhaps we do have something to offer, and as Sienne suggests, support was so valuable for us when we started and that is something we can certainly provide! Now that our semester is winding down we will have a little more time to visit health while on break. :YMHUG:

beautifully spoken, everyone...
and I think Sienne has an EXCELLENT point...

I know what an exceptional group we are...and what a wonderful way to let others in on the secret :-D

Tinkerbell also gets these and I will post about it on Health in a minute...I have some pix of her. I will send a PM also ~ Desi

I feel like I'm WAY too inexperienced to add much advice! But I can tell people they're not alone. To me, that was the biggest part of finding this board. Eventually Mikey and I will figure this out and then we can maybe more actual help!

Since I am the one who whined the loudest about it in Think Tank, I just wanted to express my appreciation to everyone who went to Health today and posted. Julie, Sienne, DD and anyone who I haven't mentioned specifically....
Thank you,
Carl

Many times someone asks for help for someone on Health & I usually check it out--
I like ti give advice from my own experiences here, and am always willing to help.
Pay It Forward, that's what we do here in LL TR! -and hopefully on all the forums.

I was one tried to set straight the misconceptions being spread about Lantus Land. LL has the most generous people ever, at all hours of the day and night.

I got sniped at for doing so. Yeah, you know who you are. But you're forgiven. :YMPEACE:

I pledge to support other beans and kitties, here and in Health -- because that's what I learned from Lantus Land!

carl, i see you on the main health board every day and i know you must be feeling the stress. i know i appreciate what you give and i appreciate what the other folks who staff that board daily do.

speaking generally, in times of stress, it helps to turn towards each other and pull out the best of each other rather than criticize. most of us react to criticism by feeling defensive.

you guys are the best. as sienne said, the way for others to see that is for us to extend that generosity and encouragement to others outside of LL.

I'm sorry I made you feel singled out. I put a break in between the comments to you and that line, figuring that would suffice. It was actually directed to the "group", not you, and I should have said "y'all" instead of "you". I include myself in that group as well.

Julie,
Thank you. And you're right. Together we all matter. Alone, not so much.

Carl
