Well, we got back Ghost's biopsy on Monday. Bad news, he has a squamous cell carcinoma. It's equally bad because it's in the corner of his eye. If they tried to remove it, they'd have to take his eye, part of his nasal cavity, and bone. He'd be disfigured and have a low quality of life. Plus, a specialist would have to do it and we have none in Wyoming. Ghost would not like having half a face. The chemo or radiation they can't do here either. I wouldn't want to subject my Ghostie to that either. :cry: The vet said they could cauterize it, give him pain meds, etc. But, is it worth it? Causing him pain so we can have him a few more weeks? With an aggressive fast moving tumor? I say no, as long as he's eating and happy,(which he is with all the food he's been getting, we are spoiling him) we keep him at home. So far, he's been okay, I'm sure he'll let us know when it gets bad for him. Poor Ghostie, we love him so. :YMSIGH:

Oh Sue, I'm so sorry, for you and Ghost. I have no experience with SCC so cannot offer advice, only gentle hugs and prayers that Ghost's last days will be peaceful and loving at home with his family.

Scritches to your boy. cat_pet_icon

(((((Sue))))) I haven't around much lately, I am so sorry to see you and Ghostie have to deal with this. Hopefully he will stay happy and eating for a while to come!

Oh Joanna, Thank you. Ghost is just loving getting all the canned food he can eat. Plus, it's so good for him! I gave him a couple of Greenies tonight and he just went nuts over them. He loves em. He has a hard time seeing them to catch them in his mouth like he can but he tried. Silly cat, he's still entertaining us.

I can't tell you what to do with your cat, but I know what I'd do if it were my cat. I would focus on the quality of the days they had left and spoil the dickens out of them. And then knowing that any time I choose would be too soon for me, I would try to pick a time that was well before it became too long for them and help them cross gently over to the other side of the rainbow bridge. If you listen, they do tell you. Its just that we don't want to hear it...

((Sue)),

I share the same view with Gina. I would focus on the quality of life the kitties have left and spoil them rotten (I have no problem of doing that!).

Over the years, I have made some mistakes. Looking back, I should have paid more attentinon to what they were trying to tell me - mama it's time to let me go.

I am very sorry to hear about Ghostie's biopsy result. Spoil him, love him then gently help him cross the bridge before he can no longer enjoy the things which he enjoys the most. Let Ghostie guide you..........

Sue, I'm so sorry for Ghostie and for you that it came back as SCC. I agree completely with what Gina wrote and sending many prayers that Ghostie has a lot more time enjoying life and being spoiled rotten. So hard to know, to watch every day......breaks your heart.

I've got to stop reading these at work. I start crying then they all look at me weird. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. :cry:

I'm so sorry the news wasn't better....but I think you are doing the best thing there is to do for Ghostie, spoil him a little extra rotten for all of us as well, and we will continue to pray that he has many more happy days ahead of him to spend with a family that so clearly loves him so dearly, and when he tells you he has had enough that his crossing will be ever so peaceful, surrounded by all his loved ones.

I'm sorry that the news wasn't better but I agree with everyone above. Spoil him rotten, enjoy your time with him and listen for him to tell you when it IS time. I don't even NEED to say 'love him', it's very evident that you already do with all your heart.

Big loooong hug,

There may be some supportive care options you can work out with the vet. The low carb diet is supposed to help (carbs seem to feed the cancer). Prednisone may be used to reduce inflammation and it also maintains appetite. Some of the holistic cat forums may have support ideas too.

Hang it there. {{hugs}}

@ Linda Ahhh...Linda don't do that. Thank to you all for your support. Ghost was in the hay shed tonight looking for mice then came running behind me towards the house and dinner! The first Dinner!! :lol: He's had 3 now. He's been spending more time in my lap too, then bites me for petting him to much and goes under the coffee table to lay in the snuggle bed. :-D We'll get on and know that when the time comes, we will help him over the bridge gently.
