Hello all!
So, this morning Newman had his first jumpy shot...he was doing so well with them, but today he wasn't having it. I did manage to get all the insulin though. Tonight was the same experience, however, after checking his fur for wet spots, I see where some of the insulin didn't make it in (the syringe was empty when I checked it after injection but his jump must have caused him to move forward while shooting). I know the one and done rule, but am curious as to why all of a sudden he is jumpy? I rotate sites on his scruff (think face of clock) but am wondering if people have better luck with flank shooting on his back hip? He has quite a bit of skin there, so I want to try a different spot tomorrow. Also, I have been using the tent method but just read the post about the roll method as it seems to look more efficient. Any advice appreciated! Will be updating spreadsheet tonight!

I did. I was using the VetriJec U40/29g/1cc and now I am using the Branding U40/29g/1.5cc. I ordered them on Amazon bc I could get a box of 100 for about $20. Should I go back to the VetriJec? I don't mind doing that it's just hard to get them in bulk. If I do go back to those, I will just donate the other ones to the Humane Society

I’m not familiar with and have never used Brandzig insulin syringes. You can try making sure you inject with the bevel up — sometimes that helps. It’s possible the needles aren’t as sharp as with some other brands and Newman is feeling the poke more. If the reaction started with the new syringes, that might a clue.

Is Amazon your desired source? If not, both ADW Diabetes and Chewy sell syringes. I would try to get U-40 3/10cc syringes with half-unit markings if you order new ones (I definitely wouldn’t go back to the 1cc syringes you started with).

Here are the links @Diane Tyler's Mom provided for ADW. Both are decent brands, are U-40 29g 3/10cc with half unit markings, and are similar or less expensive than the Brandzig. There’s also a 10% coupon in the prior post.

Let us know what you decide. It shouldn’t be this difficult, right? It’ll get easier… :)

Are you using these syringes?

If so not that these have ½ unit markings while the 1cc syringes you had before only have one unit markings. Thus you have to make sure you are drawing up the correct dose on the new syringes.
I did order these with the 1/2 unit markings and that works better for us since we only give a half unit twice daily. My issue with these is I don't think they are as great as the VetriJec ones we got from the vet. So I got on Chewy and ordered the VetriJec ones instead.

when Hendrick was first diagnosed we tried so many different brands, a couple different needle lengths and gauges. A lot of people here swear by BD Ultra-fine but using those made Hendrick jolt, and I could feel it was not smooth sliding the needle in. Almost felt like a tearing sensation! So yes, if you find a particular brand of needle is working for Newman, stay with that. Because even if other FD caregivers say their brand is the best, in my experience it really depends on the cat and the batch. I think I got a bad batch of BD Ultra-fine since so many people swear by them and for us, they were terrible.

We ultimately settled on Sure-fine, which other people don't like so....there you have it
