I just took a second reading 1.5 hours after his first shot and it is at 574. These high readings scare me. Is this bouncing or did I do a fur shot or has the insulin gone bad? I just don't want his condition to get worse and it the high levels worry me- I don't want there to be permanent damage.

First how old is his insulin?

More than likely its a bounce since last night he dropped over 100pts in two hours that's an incredibly fast drop and fast drops like that will panic the liver.

Other than his numbers how's he acting? All 5 Ps in place? Eating and drinking normally?

I got his insulin on 2/10/14. I need a two week noticed to order more. Does anyone know when I should re order? He seems to be acting okay but a little tender and tired. The five p's seem to be in order. He was wrestling his brother Roger this morning. He was grooming a lot last night. Haven't noticed much purring. His bowels seem fine but there is still a large volume of sticky urine in the box-although this has improved a lot since we started treatment.

I think I am just extra worried because of his legs and he just seems a little sensitive lately (and it is my time of the month too). I know this is a marathon but I just get really discouraged. I want him to be okay and I want him to be happy and healthy and feel like I am failing him. Will his numbers even out? I am wondering what the ideal numbers are for throughout the day.

I think you're doing fine Abbey. It's a lot to learn in a short time and you're learning it! I've had those same feelings too, probably we all have when we first started. I think the numbers will even out eventually, but it takes time, especially when a kitty is newly diagnosed and each kitty is different. I'm with Mel that I think today's #'s may be a bounce. See how the numbers are over the next few cycles and make sure Georgie gets plenty of water. I mix water in Max's food to make sure he gets plenty. If you don't see improvement, then you re-evaluate. I think you've already been seeing improvement because you've been seeing more #'s in the "blues." Here's a quote from the tight regulation protocol, "Try to keep the cat at a dose where the BGs are in the 50 to 200 mg/dl range for as much of the day as possible."
