Hello again!

I feel like I'm asking new questions everyday, but I'm really trying to get a better understanding of this FD thing.

Noah numbers have been pretty stable this week. Mostly purples again. I'm doing SLGS because he won't eat wet food and I'm just wondering how often I should test. I test before AM and PM shot, and once or twice during each cycle. Is that enough?

Also, I will be doing another curve tomorrow or Monday. Can I do the curve during the day again or would it be better to do it at night.

It looks like Noah is heading toward another increase and I won't be able to start it on Tuesday like I did this week (because I have to go to stupid work on Wednesday). Hopefully these high numbers again this week won't do too much damage. I feel like such a failure for not be able to switch him to wet food and do TR.

You're far from a failure. I tried for over a year to get Doodles to all wet food and guess what...he still gets a little dry or he'll starve himself but he's much better at eating wet then ever before. Keep offering the wet at every meal.

I think you're testing is good and agree he needs an increase. Yes, with SLGS the guidelines are to hold for 7 days and do a curve before increasing but personally with his numbers and you have a good amount of tests....it's safe to increase him to 3.5u tomorrow morning.

Every cat gets to the dose that will start bringing in more yellow, blue etc. Just hang in there :bighug::bighug:

There's a lot to learn about FD - many people have compared it to a graduate course. Feel free to keep asking questions. We love to help, we've all walked in your shoes. :bighug:

I agree with Karen, you've done a great job testing and I don't think you are missing any lows. It'll be fine to go up to 3.5 units on your next shot. As far as testing, the preshots are essential as well as the curve on SLGS. Any spot tests you can get around the middle of the cycle will also help figure out what he's doing. As he gets into lower numbers, you may have to test a little more, but not yet.

Thank you both so much! This board has already helped so much. I still feel so new at this!

I will up his dose tomorrow morning and will be home to test him until Wednesday. I'm so lucky to be able to work from home for 4 days per week and get a few more tests in during the week. Noah doesn't mind testing (I'm sure it's only because I give him a piece of freeze dried chicken after each test), but I don't want to over do it. I will check in again about the frequency of testing when his numbers start to drop.

As for the wet food I'm still trying at every meal. He won't even smell it. He walks as far away as possible from the plate. His brother just loves the Fancy Feast pâté and it was so easy to switch him from dry to wet (of course he is the one with the normal BG)...

Keep asking questions. We all remember how overwhelming it was when first diagnosed. Keep trying different wet foods. You just might hit on one he likes. Maybe one of the freeze dried such as Stella and Chewy's or Feline Natural will be a hit. You could try it without adding water like you give treats at first. Both are low carb. Good luck with the increase.

I also agree that you can increase his dose tomorrow.

Don't feel like a failure!! Noah is in charge and you can try to persuade him, but you can't make him. He's in the lead in this Sugar Dance, and you're doing a great job of following his lead.

Did the dose increase this morning and Noah has been in yellow for the past 3 hours. So happy! I'm going to put away the lancets and the glucometer for a couple of hours and give his little ears a break. I just love testing and seeing his numbers come down...

Thank you all for your guidance!

And we're back in purple. At least we saw more yellow today. Noah has also been able to have a good nap today... he has been really restless since he started to get sick.

Wishing you and your kitties a good (and green) day.
