For a couple weeks Dennis has been placing between "Negative" (tan in color) and "Trace" (a fair pink) on his ketone urine test. Right now it looks more like "Trace".... but for the past 5 days his BG has been in the 300's which is good for him (with the exception of this morning, he was over 600). BUT was actually down to 250 at his last dose.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had readings that were between Negative and Trace?

Also, is it possible to have traces of ketones but to have them disappear on their own? Or once they are present do they stay and get worse?

I don't fully understand how the ketones develop (other than because of high BG), and what it means if they appear.

Its hard to tell the diff between negative and trace, to me.

Once a urine test at the vets came up with trace ketones, and that was during a very bad spell of poor regulation. It did go away, and though we still dont have good control, the ketones have not come back, knock on wood no jinxies.

So to answer your question, just because ketones are present doesnt guarantee they'll get worse. Just keep monitoring is key.
