Hello all,

Gem was diagnosed in May and it took a few months (1U ProZinc) to get her more regulated but thought we were on the right track. Lately, it seems like she is just not responding as well to the insulin. Is this something that can happen? She seems to be sort of stuck in the 200's. We just got a new bottle of insulin last week. I have a feeling she's getting low at night, so maybe her higher numbers during the day are due to bouncing?

On top of that, we left her with a sitter for two days at the end of October and the sitter reported her back legs shaking in the morning before breakfast and before dinner as well. I hadn't noticed it before until Saturday morning before her shot. Her back legs were shaking as she was trying to walk. Could this be neuropathy because her numbers are high?

Do I increase her dose? Keep it the same? I've got her automatic feeder set up to give her snacks in the middle of the night hoping that will help a little with her getting low overnight. I had also bought some beef and turkey FF pate for her and was thinking that could have caused her higher numbers, but she's been back on chicken only for the last few days with not much improvement. In fact, she had a super high reading at +2 yesterday. Could have been a fur shot, I guess.

She's gained weight is overall looking and acting much healthier, but now I'm worried we're backsliding a little bit and I want to do what I can to get her back on track.

Thank you advance!

I will tag a member that has used Prozinc and she what she thinks and also why her legs are shaking

It does sound like it could be neuropathy... Has she been to the vet at all recently? I ask because other things can cause leg weakness such as low potassium or hyperthyroidism or arthritis.

If it's neuropathy, many find b12 methylcobalamin supplements help.

I'm hesitant to tell you to increase because you are occasionally getting decent numbers. Maybe try a fat 1... Like just barely over the line. I'd like to see you get down to 75-100 during the peek.

@JanetNJ Thank you. She hasn't been to vet recently because she's been doing so much better. In fact, I feel like we jinxed it because we were talking about how awesome she's doing. What kind of testing would the vet be able to do to determine arthritis or hyperthyroidism? Or could they do tests?

I guess I just needed some guidance on whether or not to change what we're doing, we were on a great path, and you're right sometimes she has okay numbers, but like today, she didn't budge at all during the day, stayed within 10 of her morning PS. Sigh...I guess we'll just keep going and hope things level out. Get her to the vet and try to get a video of her legs shaking so they can help us figure out what to do next.

I sure do appreciate you all.

Low potassium or hyper t would show up on a complete blood panel. When was the last time he had Bloodwork done? Arthritis could show in an xray or just by eliminating other things. Most cats over 12 have some arthritis, but your cat is pretty young at 10.
It couldn't hurt to give some b12 methylcobalamin supplements in case it's neuropathy. It's just a vitamin you would mix in food.

If you can monitor then give a very slight increase in dose and see if you can tweek the numbers down a little.
