I need advice ASAP!!!
Was distracted tonight and gave Bailey too much insulin. He takes about 2U to 2.5U of Novolin twice a day depending on his PS readings. It is often in the 400-600 range and drops to below 100 within 4 hours. I had his PS reading at 331 tonight and probably shot about 4U instead of 2U. I always feed him at 2 hours after shot. Would not want to take him to the Emergency, he gets very stressed out and it would make things worse.
Please advise!!!

Thanks

.

I would feed him now and be ready to test often for the next few hours. It's my understanding that the insulin and food work together. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon.

I'm here.
You've double dosed with N. The most critical period will likely be at +3 to about +5.
What do you have in the way of Karo or other syrup, canned high carb, or high carb dry food?
Where is your local emergency vet?
Do you have an oral syringe?

Start feeding high carb gravy and dry if you have it, a couple teaspoons of each, plus a few drops of syrup on it (cats don't taste sweet), ever 20-30 minutes.

You don't want to feed too much at once, especially if any of that is dry food, when he drinks, it will expand and he may vomit.

You'll need to test every 30 minutes, too.

I have canned food (chicken in gravy, tuna in gravy) and dry food also. I don't have Karo syrup but was using honey on his canned food when BG readings were below 50 in the past. I guess small meals and often are better also because it will sustain the sugar level that comes from food on more or les even level. We went through a hypo episode once already about 2 years ago :-( So if I need to I can syringe-feed him with "sweetened-up" baby food.

Please report his glucose tests every 30 minutes, or sooner if you test sooner.
Is there anyone who can help you with this? A friend who can come over, maybe?

ASAP on the strips.
Novolin hits fast.

Even if you can't test, keep giving the food every 30 minutes. We need to stoke that glucose level; you were hitting levels below 50 mg/dL in recent days.

OK. Tested BG now (about an hour after the shot) and it is 486! He ate just before the shot. I'm not so panicky now.

Whew! That's a good starting point.

Maybe not. I looked at what 3 units did on a pre-shot of 552 and it came down to a 46.

Keep feeding some high-medium carb food every 30 minutes; when this hits, it'll hit hard.

Hasn't responded to private message 30 minutes ago, either. I keep checking.

Feed low carb for now, but please keep checking every 30 minutes. That 3 units is way too much based on what it did to 552 mg/dL and you starting about 200 mg/dL lower than that.

PMPS ~ 331
+1 ~ 486 <- could be a food spike
+??~ 477 <- how long was that after the shot?

.

Good. No big drops yet, but don't become complacent. I agree with BJ. A lot can happen in the next couple of hours. Bailey has already shown us what he's capable of with those drops into low numbers...

It is 508 reading a couple of minutes ago. So:

PMPS: 331
+1 486
+2 477
+3 508

Fur shot?

Possible. Does it smell like band-aids near where you shot? Did you feel moisture in the area?

When do you normally shoot in the morning?

Looking at the spreadsheet, he usually responds in the first 1-2 hours, except the one morning of January 23 (?date check?)
... is the spreadsheet not dated correctly?

I need to sign off now and crash for tonight due to a sleep disorder.
If you run into trouble, post here for help.

Checked again at +5.5 hours - "Hi" , which means above 600. So, I officially declare it a "fur shot". Thanks for all the support! Off to bed...
