It was just such a quick moment, I caught myself in the middle of the shot realizing my mistake.
Stuff happens, that's life. It's how you dealt with it that impressed me. I can only hope if anything like this ever happened to me I can keep a level head like you did last night.
Thankfully, I’m just smart enough to know I’m not very smart. You all have provided great insight over the last few months. I would be a fool not to follow advice.
Peeka is lucky to have you and we're lucky to have this amazing place called FDMB.

You only got the aftermath of everything, I definitely cried on the way there and right before when I saw her BG drop that quickly. But I agree, I’m very glad to have the backing of this community!

(((Peter)))

Glad to hear Peeks is doing OK.

Part of the concern last night is that there were so many variables:

* too much insulin

* two different products

* different administration times

* different onset times (both due to difference in time of admin and also difference in mode of action of the two insulins)

* different periods of peak effect

* different dose durations

That's far too many variables and unknowns to try to juggle at home. It was a situation where there was significant risk of a protracted period of fighting to keep Peeka's numbers in a safe range, and where response to attempts to steer BG with food would have been highly unpredictable. Far better for Peeka to be on the dextrose drip and closely monitored at the vets to make sure she didn't become hypoglycaemic. If she's temporarily running a little high as a result then that's OK. Better too high for a day. ;)

Well the Vetsulin is still for my other cat Boo. He has done very well on in for the last year, we have 2 diabetic cats in the house. Boo get 4u of Vetsulin and Peeka gets 3 ProZinc. At this point, I’m not wanting to switch up Boos recovery since he’s been doing so well.
Oh...I didn’t realize you had two diabetic cats. You all are amazing!! I didn’t see the “&” at first glance in your signature so thought Peeka’s name was Peeka Boo. So cute that there are two of them...Peeka and Boo.

Update on Peeka: All is good, they had her on dextrose drip, she apparently got pretty high at one point, and as of now is in the 400s, so they took her off. It sounds like it never got too much lower than the 128 I captured before leaving, but at the rate she was dropping, I didn’t want to take any chances. She’s available for pick up this morning, and she will be getting lots of snuggles. Dr recommended normal insulin dosage today, a little extra feeding and close monitoring since her BG never got to hypo. Curious everyone’s thoughts.
We never know when something like this...and believe me, it happens more than you might think...might be a non-event. There have been times when I was certain it could be dealt with at home and I’ve stayed up helping the caregiver deal with it. But, other times, such as this one, where it’s just not possible to know how long those numbers will drop, how much karo and HC it will take, if the cat will vomit and the BG plummet again. I know you were scared and ER trips are not inexpensive but you will have Peeka safe and sound at home today and that’s the most important thing of all.

You did great, Peter!!! This episode has a happy ending and that is what matters.

I'm glad Peeka is home. I would put a notation if you can of "see remarks" in units column for last nights PM cycle or some such.
Although apparently, she didn't go super low, some cats will be extra sensitive to insulin right after a hypo (Peeka did not go hypo, luckily), but I'm just saying try to get an extra test or two in tonight and tomorrow if you can.

Peeka is home, laying on her ottoman. Still woozy and out of it, but all is good for now. Going to monitor her today and see how she does. Thank you again, everyone for tour help!
Great news. Along with what Dyana said, it would be good to indicate in the cells any BGs the vet gave you. You could put in a cell before the vet’s BG “at vet” and then in a cell today “home from vet”. Also, in the remarks, expand the comments to include that she went to the ER. I know you probably have your hands full but, at some time, trying to show that “history” is helpful for those helping you.

I also want to clarify this was not a hypo or even close and so I do not expect Peeka to have any insulin sensitivity. The cats that do have BGs that are very, very low (typically less than 30) and/or are having hypoglycemia symptoms. Peeka was neither.

best wishes for a much better day!
