Ok, that's twice this week that I swear my kitten has farted! I was on the phone with another board member the other night and the smell that came out of the kitten was nasty. He does have diarreah, or rather very soft stool. I didn't think cats could fart, but he just did it again. He's not having a problem - I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this?

Not sure what your kitten's "story" is but....we adopted 3 cats from the Humane Society, and all three of them had giardia. They had diarrhea (one so bad that it would drip when you picked her up), and Cat #3 had the worst gas of any cat I've ever been around. My vet told me that giardia cysts aren't consistently shed into the feces, so fecal tests don't always detect it. They were all put on Flagyl, which resolved the problem (although it took a while). Anyway, you might research giardia and see if the symptoms sound similar to what your kitten has. Of course, there are a lot of other possible causes of diarrhea and gas, but that's the first thing that always comes to mind for me since we recently dealt with it. Hope it helps in some way!

If this happened after switching food, it may be helpful to give some probiotic such as Forti Flora, Intelliflora, etc. You can click on the shop link above and search on your local Amazon to find some decent prices.

Yep, he's had more of the D than the solid poops since I have been here. The vet hospital I adopted him from told me they tested his poop and it was clear, although he did have the same problem with them. My vet has checked his poop and come to the same conclusion. He did suggest the same thing that shelley mentioned, but he hasn't given me a good solid poop since he was at the vet on Tuesday. I leave for hawaii on Thursday, so it will have to wait until I get back. I have to say I think it is the proplan food. I think Ace agrees with me. He is reluctant to eat it unless I put FortiFlora on it. The FF doesn't seem to bind him up as much as Dallas.
