He did very well! Our AMPS was 219, his pre-dental bloodwork about 2 hours later has it at 230 - how's that for meter variance?
Post dental it was 139, which would have been about +3.
+7 66 and they gave him some Nutrical
+8 143
No extractions and boy, do his canines look better! They were stained with a brown streak, now they are whiter than my teeth. His blood work looks OK, although his BUN and Creatinine are just over high normal, which is good regarding the Creatinine because it is steady now at that above high normal and has been for quite a while. It is my argument to anyone with a cat showing renal insufficiency - start them on low amount of fluids and it should maintain them, as long as there are no other complicating factors like heart disease. A university vet got me started on the fluids for him. I am forever grateful for that.
I had them check BP pre-dental and it was 114/89 and 109/85. That actually seems low, but I'm not sure what a cat's normal BP is supposed to be. I'm pretty sure that was done pre-dental, as that's what I asked them to do. Perhaps vet wrote down what it was during dental only.
My only beef, as it was last year, was that they charged me an exorbitant price for BG checks! I even mentioned this to the vet beforehand, sort of hoping they would cut me a deal. At least his ear isn't all bloody like it was last time. THAT really burned me. For the 3 checks via glucometer the total charge was $43.50, $14.50 EACH!!!!!!
When the total for everything was only $263 and so many here state their dentals are so much more, I guess I shouldn't complain, but when I know how little it truly costs per test, it is an outrage. That is almost 2 months of test strips for me!!!! Yes, I want them to keep him safe, but the results they got are perfectly safe and he only went to 66 because of no food/anesthesia affects. He had .65U dose this AM.
I haven't checked him yet, but I bet he's over 350 tonight, or in the AM at least.
