Gagging, will not eat

Good evening everyone, I have developed a nasty sinus cold over this, but thank the Lord today was a turning point. Hershey came downstairs to the kitchen and made the biggest burb I have ever heard, stopped my other two cats in their tracks! He came to the place where we fed him and he ate, not a lot but a little. He had his test 2 hours later and he was at 200, so NS. He didn't seem hungry but ate some freeze dried chicken. Later at 10:30 he ate for my mom and at 2:30 for my daughter, the recovery canned food. Tonight his number was at 268 and he ate a bit, so I gave him .25 unit. He seems to be maintaining decent numbers considering everything. We were going to give him another 1/4 Pepcid tonight, but he came down again looking for food, he has about 1/4 of a can and then a few pieces of grass drank used his box! I am so blessed, I never thought I would ever be so happy to see him do all his basic things. Once thing is for sure, no more human food, no more dairy, nothing, guess that means no ice cream for me either!

Glad to hear Hershey is coming around. It could very well have been the ice cream that gave all the gas, since most kitties are lactose intolerant. Kitties lack the enzyme needed to break down milk products properly which can lead to gas and stomach upset.

No more yummy treats for Hershey ;)

:bighug: :bighug:

Mr. Hershey is back to his old self, trying to scratch at the dog's bag of food :joyful:, which really isn't funny, I've closed the pantry door. He is eating, sunning, drinking, and I think a little exhausted from the whole week. It's a relief. Thank you so much for all your support!:cat:

PS Numbers held up ok during the whole thing, surprisingly. The Recovery RS didn't effect him too much, weaning him off of that and getting back to fancy feast, but I've been hearing that they may have changed some of their recipes. Going to try the Wellness that are low carb!

Well thats wonderful!! You must be so relieved! :joyful:
You have no idea I was sure it was something else. I have never heard a cat belch and this was so loud it stopped my other two cats from playing. It echoed with our high ceiling, I think it even surprised him. I guess you can kill them with kindness.

His numbers are still high, I guess it will take a few days to get back on track. I have increased his dose to .75 am and pm. I will see if that makes any difference in a few days. He has been doing great, super hungry and irritating my Jezzy. He still isn't sure if the new kitten is here to stay, but they seem to get a long lol!

We have always been able to give him a dab here and there, it isn't even full fat, he isn't getting anything from the table. Do you think that roasted chickens from the store are ok? Just the plain flavor?
I wouldnt. Those are always/usually injected with flavorings, sodium etc, even the plain ones.

Glad he's doinng better. That belch is exactly what he needed!

You can buy a chicken breast and bake it, without any seasonings. Cut up in tiny snack sized pieces and store them in the freezer, pulling a couple out when he needs a snack. Maybe have a few out when you are eating so he feels like he is part of the family?

I think most (maybe all) cats have no ability to digest lactose so the whole give kitty milk/cream is an old wives tale
I am so glad Hershey is better - I'm sure the #s will get better with the increase
