Gages numbers are going down and down.

Gage has been on Lantus since 6/12 (vetsulin before than) I didnt know what to expect but if you look in my chart you will see he started with 1.5 units, went to 1 unit, and now down to 0.5. Sometimes his numbers are so low I just skip his insulin all together. I would really like to find a unit number that works for him or is this the beginning of remission? Should I continue to skip his insulin if his numbers are low from the get go? He used to be so high and now were the exact opposite and this is all new and I have to relearn what I thought I was finally getting the hang of. Some advisement would be amazing I just don't want to throw him into DKA after his last DKA scare or even worse and to low all together.

It's difficult to see what the dose is doing if there are no tests being done between cycles. I recommend doing a curve the next time you give insulin plus regularly testing in between cycles.

Take a look at other member's spreadsheets and you'll get a pretty good idea of the variety of times people test. I personally test a lot in order to try to catch my cat's lowest number throughout the cycle.

Dosing lantus is based upon how low a dose takes the cat rather than Preshot numbers. You need mid cycle tests when possible and at least a before bed test.

I was going to do a cycle today but his BS was at 95 so Im thinking I defiantly want to skip insulin for this morning. I'm terrified Im going to make his numbers to low and my vet just says its better to have a bit higher numbers than to try to get them perfect. So they are of no help.

There is no harm in doing a curve when you are skipping. If Gage accepts it, go for it. Especially with the 73 yesterday PM and the 95 this AM. It will start to let you know when and why he is spiking if he does, which he has in the past when you have skipped.

I agree with everyone else. You need to test more especially in the evening. Most cats I've seen, go their lowest at night.

I'm curious, did you feed Gage any dry food prior to the Diabetes? I'm asking because I've seen some cats go into remission just by eliminating all dry food.

Interesting that Gage was green without insulin for two shots!

Yes you can definitely test without insulin just to gather some data.
