Does anyone know if there is a correlation between gabapentin and urinary incontinence in cats? Or has heard anything from their respective vets, own research, etc? Haven’t been able to find much online.

I’ll bring up same with my vet this week.

bubba is on 50mg gaba q12h (capsule, sprinkled in food). He hasn’t had gaba for the last week? (we ran out), and just started up again a few days ago. Now he’s had urinary issues today - pp on floor or pp pads 2-3x today, or peeing while lying down x1. He did have a UTI a few weeks ago and was on antibiotics for it.

One is not supposed to just stop gabapentin if a cat was on it for a long time. I do not know what happens if one just stops it though. That ws the only thing I could fine in the past about stopping lon term use of gabapentin.

I've been wondering the same thing. Mouse has been on it for quite awhile and let's just say I have 3 rooms needing new flooring. I've started tapering her off of it. Shes on 3 different pain meds and I think we can do without this one.

Innnnnteresting. Have you noticed a decrease in pp accidents since you started tapering Mouse off gaba?

Sucks bc I just spent $106 on it at the compounding pharmacy :banghead:

yeah. Bubba is on bupe and onsior for pain. Was hoping gaba would help with his nerve pain - walking flat footed on his front paws and sometimes flat on his rear R leg

I haven't noticed a change yet, but I just started last Thursday. I've only tapered off a tiny bit. I'm trying to be very slow and careful. I'm going to be looking for a new vet, but I need to get all meds filled first. The new vet I'd like to go to has a pretty long wait for an appt. So, I'm doing the tapering off on my own. I have to do something. Mouse has been peeing all over for 4 months. Nothing has helped.

Fingers crossed you're able to find a solution soon for Mouse (and for your own sanity!). :bighug:
It's all so mentally exhausting, take care of yourself!

Have you considered giving adequan injections? It works great the sooner you start the better but it will also slow the progression of the joint pains.
