Absolutely. It's mandatory where I live, and I am so glad I'm not tossing all those cans in a landfill... Until you recycle, you don't really see how many of the things you go through!
My huge blue recycle box is full of cans. Not only do we recycle the cans but I pull off
all of the tabs and donate them to charity.
Many organizations collect tabs from cans and sell the aluminum to raise money.
I have been doing this for years.
You should look into this in your areas.

I am lucky to have curbside recycling in my town - course, I get to pay for it in my taxes, I'm sure.
Unfortunately, it it still voluntary and I could brain the ppl on my street who don't bother.
If I could get dh to agree to a compost heap, I'd only have a few bones and cellophane to toss.
