so tonight I accidentally gave my cat a fur shot cause he was wriggling, he is on 6units of caninsulin twice a day. So question as worried as I don't know how much insulin he absorbed as soon as injected could feel wetness on fur, dunno what to do should I give him another 6 units just in case?or leave it until his next jab tomorrow morning. Scared if give him another shot his BG will go to low or if don't it's gonna be high. On 2 occasions now his BG has been very low 2.2 and he's had to be admitted to vets for treatment as he was lethargic very low mood etc and when vet tested it's been very low, hence why he was unwell. I currently do not home test but I'm going to start as I need to know when it's too low or too high. At mo he is unwell with head cold sneezing runny nose and eyes and on antibiotics so he is fed up.

DO NOT GIVE MORE INSULIN. It is impossible to tell just how much insulin did get in and giving extra could easily cause a hypo episode.

Yes, never re-dose when a fur shot happens. We pull a large tent of skin out from Leo's midsection. Then we dose. Ever since we started this method we had zero fur shots.

For higher dose kittehs, it can happen with pancreatic diabetes. But there was also a recent study in Great Britain. They found over 20% of all diabetic kittehs had some Acromegaly. And Acro causes higher dosage requirements as well.

So how much was he on before the hypos? 6 units is more than double what most people give already. Was he on7 units? If he was on 6 when he hypoed you know that means the dose is too high, right? Please start hone testing your cat! We can help you with that.
