I did a fur shot once when I first started Minnie on insulin because I thought I was a pro and tried to inject her in the dark without being able to see what I was doing
I obviously leaned my lesson and have never ever had another fur shot since, until yesterday that is. This was very very odd though. I saw the needle go into her skin as I always do before injecting, but the moment I pushed the plunger in, the insulin went all over her fur. I was pretty surprised so I carefully pulled the needle out and saw it come out of from the skin. I smelled the liquid to make sure it was insulin and it was. I honestly feel that somehow the syringe leaked...? Has anyone ever experienced this?
I know we’re not suppose to give a second shot after a fur shot but I saw this all happen and I was pretty sure she got none of the insulin so I gave her another shot. Her +5 was 163 so I was right in my thinking. Disclaimer: I’d never have done a second shot if I had noticed her fur was wet later, but had not seen exactly what happened.
Anyway, just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and if syringes can leak even when the needle is fully in the cat’s skin.
thanks!!
