Hey All - here are some pics of my boy.
I am concerned about the discloloration of the fur around his nose - Has anyone encountered this? Is it just cuz he's an old man & it's starting to show?
Any replies are welcome (but pls ignore the spreadsheets in our signature, as they are not up to date).
Many thanks,

maybe it's just my computer, but the link didn't work for me. it said "Google Server Error Unable to Process Request."

Hi Julie - the link in the Signature section works - pls try that one & let me know - thanks!

Hey Alexa,

It may be in a weird spot, but it looks like he may just be getting some gray. Belle was about 12 when I noticed lighter spots on her chin, and it was just her hair changing color. I also noticed white patches on the shoulder area of my almost 11 year old black cat.

I assume you've tried to clean the area? Other than him breathing something in, I think him turning gray is a possibility.

hmmm, i'm not sure if i was looking at what you're talking about - i was thinking there might be something like warts on his skin. so it's the fur, not the skin? i'll go look again.

ok, peeked again. i'm thinking Jason's likely right - a little bit of gray starting right at his nose. i think i'd just keep an eye on it, but if it's just his fur, i think it's probably ok.

Thanks for your responses - I too see other white hairs showing up on other parts of him (ears, paws, belly, etc...), but the fact that the fur seems to be losing color & going from black to brown is what's making me nervous.
Thanks again everyone :)

Under Gus' nose is mostly white. I thought it was my imagination, but after he was diagnosed, the fur started to turn a light brown. I tried to wash it a little for him, but it was definitely a change in color. Coincidence? Could be. The title of your post caught my eye because I was surprised anyone else had experienced the change.

Tx bev5477 - keep me posted if you hear of others having the same concerns or if you figure out this weird mystery :)

does he often have a runny nose ?

Thanks for asking, but no - I've never seen/felt a runny nose, just normal wet nose.
Altho - now that you mention it, this discoloration first started (January) on the left side of his nose, and there was some darkish crust around the nostril. Since then, the discoloration has spread around to the other nostril (as you can see in the pics), but there is no mose crust. All bloodwork was normal in January.
Let me know if you have a hunch, ok 'mybuddybinks'?
Thanks again for the reads & replies!

I remember that I once tried to research this because I had a friend whose gray cat's coat was turning a rusty color. There may be a deficiency or imbalance in the diet which might contribute to this:

Dearest Linda & Bear Man,
Thank you so much for reading & sending this helpful link my way! Great to get some ideas & research leads!
Pootch sends purrs :)
