This hasn't been posted about in quite a while.....info about full moon and diabetic kitties. We have seen more hypo action and even ketones during the phase of the full moon. Some a few days leading up to it and some a few days after the phase. Now is the time to always test and do spot checks and also catch some "liquid" gold for testing, if possible.

A full moon can affect diabetic cats?? How??? This is v worrying

I am not sure anyone really knows why. Just a lot of us see odd patterns crop up during full moon phases. Like Oscar took a nose dive today on his first dose of Levemir even with reducing the dose by a 3rd :o

oooh is poor little oscar ok? i havent noticed anything with my cats - the civvies are doing absolutely zero! the 'sick' one was acting odd trying to climb into bags, but he always does and his BG is all over the place!

im prob v stupid, but i didnt think full moons were the same all over the world? they cant be surely? here in London, the moon looked pretty full tonight - but i though it changed depending where u were in the world. or im an idiot - much more likely :)

can't explain it either but yeah, in my 4+ years here the curveballs the kitties like to throw seem to be odder during a full moon.

in all honesty, my fiance and i know when it's a full moon based on the traffic when we're driving home. seriously, when it's a full moon, everyone seems to drive like idiots. so then i know to pay particular attention to Mousie and what I shoot :-D

Another reason to worry about ketones! thanks Hope nailbite_smile
As it is Payne stalks around getting to the litter box area ..... (fenced off from the dogs because it's easier to catch urine with the top of the litter box off) as she tries to pee without us bothering her :)
or how my life has changed since my cat became diabetic :YMSIGH: but I refuse to look at the beautiful
full moon and see ketones and hypos!

There have been some studies that show admissions to medical ERs and psychiatric hospitals do increase when the moon is full. I did my internship at psychiatric crisis unit and we used to dread night shifts when there was a full moon. I don't know if it was physiological or psychological, but the patients always became more agitated during those shifts. The full moon also seems to effect dementia patients in nusing homes.

The word lunatic comes from the latin word luna which means moon. So far nothing bizzare in my house tonight but the evening is. still young! LOL :-)
